Riyad Bank is one of the largest financial institutions in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East having total assets of USD 48 billion (Sept ’11), with over 246 branches country wide and offices in London, Houston, and Singapore; Reporting to CRO, heading a team of analysts
Key responsibilities:
- Development and streamlining of periodical Reporting of Credit Portfolio to the Board of Directors, Board Executive Committee and the senior Management in newly established Loan Portfolio Management function
- Presentation and discussion on loan portfolio composition, quality and trends to/ with the Board, the Executive Management, the Main Credit Committee, the Saudi Regulator and the external Rating Agencies
- Preparation of quarterly analytical reports on the Bank’s performance vs. competitors and profitability analysis reports based on sectors, ratings, segments, products, etc.
- Monitoring of Risk Migrations within the Portfolio
- Monitoring and internal reporting of payment delinquencies at the regional, Sectorial and global level and review of customer limits and take corrective measures in case of excesses
- Drafted stress testing Policy for credit risk & post approval, conducted regular stress tests on the Bank’s Portfolio
- Recommending Economic Sector Ceiling limits to the Board for approval and their subsequent monitoring
- Preparation of Risk Appetite statement and Risk limits for the Portfolio and sub portfolios and recommending to Board for approval
- Monitoring of Risk limits and Preparation of Quarterly Risk Appetite Dashboard for the Board and the senior management
- Prepared several working papers on NPLs, Portfolio Performance and Profitability comparisons
- Prepared detailed insurance sector study, UBL Insurers business plan, and proposal for business model for UBL Islamic banking operations;
- Undertook brokerage sector study and drafting of UBL brokerage feasibility plan
- Prepared the case for UBL Branch Operations in India (presented to Central Bank of Pakistan)
- Prepared application, including the business plan, for submission to Reserve Bank of India for branch operations (UBL is the only private sector bank allowed by Central Bank of Pakistan to start operations in India)
- Prepared Pre‐feasibility for UBL Operations in Canada
- Initiated Pre‐feasibility for setting up UBL Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT)
- Developed and Maintained Country Risk Rating Models for deriving sovereign risk ratings for Sixty‐five countries including OECD countries (where UBL had business exposure) based on their Economic, Financial & Political Outlook
- Derived formula based country exposure limits using Internal Sovereign Risk Ratings
- Prepared Country Analysis Reports for the high risk countries (semi‐annually)
- Prepared detailed Industry Research Reports for important Sectors
- Prepared industry specific Risk Acceptance Criteria (RAC) for Credit proposals in major sectors like Sugar, Cement and Fertilizers
