Supervisor
BJ restaurants
Total years of experience :4 years, 10 Months
Having spent a couple of days on food pickup in order to allow myself to get familiar with the food, and how orders are to be taken I was able to begin my role. Whilst also working on the floor as a waiter, during the day I am required to manage the door and seating of tables and above all to ensure the staff remains motivated when work is not always at its busiest. Other duties include training new staff and stock control so as to help maintain a high profit margin. My performance within this role is something I am particularly proud of, having been part of the management team that has seen revenue increase by more than 100% over the space of the last 12 months.
Having initially started working on the floor as a member of the bar where duties included serving and making drinks, I later worked on food pick-up where after identifying the food through both appearance and by checking the order sheet, food would be delivered to the table in a polite and coherent manner. Later I was moved onto the floor where duties included taking table orders, clearing tables and ensuring customer satisfaction through customer service. Having performed well, particularly excelling at up-selling I was afforded the opportunity to move to the sister restaurant oodles 'n' oodles to work as a supervisor.
Working for a local builders firm, the role was akin to an summer placement, assisting in the installation of I beams and foundations, the experience bought me a valuable insight into the non-analytic side of engineering and participating in the various projects the company was involved in, I felt helped broaden my knowledge towards different sectors within a construction site. \nThe role was a voluntary role i had undertake as a means to gain further experience within the sector.
Whilst working at spice land, my duties included working as the company's main delivery driver, performing stock takes, making pizza boxes, restocking, working behind the counter, making pizza's and serving customers as well as other day to day duties which I may have been required to perform.
The role was take as a means to help fund upcoming university expenditure.
Although only there during my summer holidays I feel the experience I managed to gain during my time there was valuable. I worked as a door to door salesman during my time as an Arcedia, working for the Scottish Power branch, and as a consequence of this I feel my interpersonal skills improved as did my communication skills and ability to work independently for long periods of time. I feel that the key to success in this field of work is ability to improvise and 'think on the spot' skills which I feel I have gained during my time at Arcedia. These skills I feel will provide great use in the future as I feel my ability to handle pressure situations and think under pressure has improved.
During my time at Sports World I was predominantly a member of the till staff and was therefore dealing with customers on a regular basis. Whilst dealing with customers I had to deal with various problems ranging from opening changing room doors to serving over the till as well as this I also had to perform exchanges and refunds when required.
As well as working on tills I have also worked on shop floor when required this involved directing customers to where-ever they wanted to go and help them obtain something which may be too high to reach other roles also included taking part in up-to four stock takes.
The role was on a part time basis, whilst I was still studying at college, as a way make ends meet.
Whilst completing the course at the Salford school of Engineering, key projects which were undertaken included the design of a 20,000 seated stadium; a group project consisting of six group members required to produce a comprehensive design and presentation for three designs before selecting one and completing key design specific calculations related to Water, Drainage, Structural Design, Geo-Technics as well as Foundations. My dissertation covered differences between strengths in masonry arch bridges depending on the materials used. Also during the second year of study the entire class was required to construct a 20ft Sway Bridge to a specified design. A week long project completed at the national college of construction, the experience bought me experience in valuable skills such as team leading and project management, having had to read details from designs, perform surveying duties, earthing, project planning and time management. Skills gained through completion of the course include; • Use of Auto-CAD2D and AutoCAD3D to complete design projects • Earthworks • Remediation methods • Finite Element Analysis • Extensive Use of ANSYS • Structural Design projects • Integrated Design Exercises akin to real life scenarios • Surveying • Analysis of water and drainage systems • Road and Transport Design methods • Traffic management • Contract Administration • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft office and its programmes (word, excel, access) • Use of various programmes, including Solidworks and Google Sketchup.
