Professor Mohammed Salem Saleh Rakas

Ph.D. research work on Relative Clause Structure in Arabic (1996 -2000) supervised by Professor Raymond Fabry and awarded by Faculty of Arts of Malta University. The study adopts The GB and PPT models of syntax. The work introduces the DP complex hypothesis to account for the non-trace position realized by the resumptive pronoun in Classical and Modern Standard Arabic.

Two-year MA course in general & applied linguistics. This thesis was submitted in parial fulfillment of the M.A. degree. It was supervised by Prof. M. Lamb. The thesis considers the phonemic system of Eastren Libyan Arabic within the framework of Muldarian Axiomatic Functionalism. The thesis is titled 'Phonetic vowels and Phonological Consonants in Eastern Libyan Arabic'

Graduate Diploma in general linguistics and Phonetics at Glasgow uniuversity, Scotlad U.K. A two-years Diploma course qualifies for a Ph.D. research degree. The thesis sumitted in partial completion of the Diploma certificate is on Arabic syntax. The Diploma was supervised by Mr. J. Simpson, and D. Abercrombie was the final exam examiner.
