Research Assistant at UAE University
  • United Arab Emirates - Al Ain
  • My current job since December 2015

Implementation of a research project in the field of computer networks. Involves working with router configurations, Linux Kernel, Networking Protocols, Scripting and Coding

Senior Software Engineer at Alcatel-Lucent
  • India - Bengaluru
  • July 2013 to June 2015

I worked in the Service Router Product Group (SRPG-IP) business unit of Alcatel-Lucent, India. This BU makes routers/switches - 7210 boxes.

My responsibilities
I worked in the Layer 2 (datalink) and Layer 2.5 (MPLS - Multiple Protocol Label Switching) in the development of 7210 boxes
Specifically I was handling 3 features at the end of 2 years :
1. Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OAM)
2. Provider Backbone Bridge (PBB)
3. Multiple LDP (Label Distribution Protocol) local LSR-ID ( Label Switched Router)

Achievements
Apart from the works contributed in the features mentioned above, out of my own interest, I automated scaling of epipe and vpls services which made the work of many easier and also saved their time.

Reason for Leaving
Shifted to Dubai due to Husband's job transfer.

Education

Master's degree, Computer Networks
  • at IIIT-B
  • July 2013

M.Tech in Information Technology with specilization in Computer Networks and Communication. It was a 2 years course covering detailed concepts of computer science subjects ( OS, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, Database), computer networks related subjects (computer networks, wireless access networks, IMS, wireless sensor networks) and many research projects as discussed below. During my tenure in M Tech, I had an opportunity to work under the guidance of Prof Dr. Jyotsna Bapat to develop a patient activity monitoring system using wireless sensor networks (WSN). By observing the knee bends of the person, the monitoring system detects and reports the activities of sitting, standing and walking. Flex-sensor, Tiny OS and Iris mote technology were used in implementing this project. We have published our research as an IEEE paper in Sensorcomm conference 2013, Spain. Under the guidance of Prof Dr. Debabrata Das who is the Dean (Academic and R&D) of IIIT-B, I had worked on a research project on development of an intelligent Wifi Jammer. My team and I were successful in achieving low power consumption by exploiting the fairness of 802.11 Mac protocol. Atheros NIC card, ath5k driver and Linux Kernel 3.4.4 were used in implementing this project. In the end semester, I interned with Tata Power Strategic Engineering division where I had an opportunity to work on IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) and LTE/Evolved Packet Core (EPC). Within a span of 6 months, I was successful in developing a Proof of Concept for Priority based calling over IP. Also, I contributed to the demonstration of mobility over Evolved Packet Core (EPC) LTE. I have worked in the areas of system programming, network protocol stack, Wireless access networks (WAN), routers/switches, IMS & VOIP, LTE/EPC and Wireless sensor networks (WSN).
