Primary Teaching Assistant
The British International School
Total years of experience :13 years, 10 Months
After receiving my qualification in English Literatures, Bachelor of Arts (English specification), I have been fortunate to have secured a position at The British International School Abu Dhabi as an assistant teacher. Here, I gained valuable experience of working first hand with pupils, following the British National Curriculum.
As part of my role at BISAD, I am trusted to take full classes across my year group when teachers are absent, ensuring curriculum objectives are met and high standards of teaching and learning are adhered to. I have been able to enhance my skills within a hybrid classroom this past term, teaching children working remotely as well as those face to face in the classroom. Although challenging at times, I believe my own professional development has been greatly enhanced in ensuring all children in class are being taught to the highest standard as well as highlighting to me the importance of collaboration and social interaction within the classroom. I am well versed in the use of concrete, pictorial and abstract sequences of teaching and use manipulatives when teaching mathematical concepts to children. My experiences in the classroom mean that I can organise learning, which encompasses a practical, multi-sensory curriculum. I get pleasure from teaching children and feel that I am a teacher who makes children feel safe through routine and consistency and excellent communication. I am highly organised and ensure that my classroom is stimulating, challenging and provides a positive climate. Educating the whole child is important to me and motivation and enjoyment of a curriculum suited to an individual’s needs is paramount. I have been fortunate in that I have had the opportunity to learn new skills, knowledge and strategies to enhance my practise from Professional Development opportunities and skilled staff I have worked with.
