• Close Monitoring and provide leadership to Real-Time Operation Engineers/System Operators responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and secure National Grid operations in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements of NEPRA, Power Purchase Agreements of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and Standard Operating Procedures of Real-time Operations & Control. Ensures consistency of real-time operations and activities among all shifts. Exercises the Management needed to maintain the grid, and the direction of all Power Stakeholders including Grid Stations, HVDC Transmission Owners, Participating Generators/All Power Plants (Hydel, Thermal, Nuclear, Coal, Solar, Wind & Bagasse etc., ) and other operating entities relating to system reliability and system emergencies.
• Implementation & review of cross-trip schemes, Under Frequency Schemes, Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF), Over Frequency Coordination, Under Voltage Schemes from time to time from an operation point of view for the security, Reliability, and stability of the Grid Station and Power Plants to ensure un-interruptible power supply to the end users.
• Supervises the real-time operation of NTDC Network and takes or directs appropriate real-time actions during normal and emergency conditions. Monitor the activities of assigned shift personnel to ensure safe and reliable operations in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Coordinates commitment of Reliability Must Run units, and Economic Dispatch to reduce the incremental cost.
• As appropriate, exercise authority over operations personnel at National Power Control Center (NPCC) and participating and non-participating generators regarding system reliability and system emergencies.
• Works closely with the Karachi Electric Reliability Coordinator/Shift Manager to ensure compliance with all standards, policies, and operating procedures applicable to the K-Electric Interconnection. Communicates regularly with the K-Electric Reliability Coordinator, Operation Managers/Plant Managers, Deputy Manager of Grid Stations and resolves different issues as per procedures and policies.
• Reviews load forecasts, Generation resources, schedules outages, and anticipated system conditions, and coordinates requirements for Reliability Must Run units and commit additional resources as necessary based on the prevailing system conditions.
• Coordinates load and system restoration after major system disturbances in coordination with the NTDC, Generators and K-electric etc, , Worked as Team Leader in the restoration of the Power System after Complete Power System Blackout January-2023. Restored Complete Pakistan Power Network in 8 Hrs & 33 minutes and worked continuously for 22 Hrs on January 23-24, 2023, with close coordination of Top Management.
• Makes needed operational decisions in the absence of the Director Power Control of Real-Time Operations as appropriate.
• Reviews grid operations logs, Procedures and documentation for accuracy and prepares reports as required.
• Manages the day-to-day Grid System operations and staff to ensure efficient and effective department operations. Responsible for providing broad direction and guidance, identifies training needs, coaching and gives feedback on employee performance, develops staff performance plans, provide recommendations with respect to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change in the status of direct reports, and performs related activities as appropriate.
• Acts as the liaison between the NPCC/System Operator (SO) control room staff and SO Executives, other NPCC sections/ NTDC departments, and correspondence with K-Electric.
• Decision for short-term and long-term planning for power system operation and Dispatch with coordination of higher Management and team members.

D. 13.8 kV level - Supply to small size industries.


• Managing the transmission and sub-transmission system.
1. Ensure that safety and reliability are paramount during switching operations.
The reliability & security of power system depending upon the way in which the power system is designed.
2. Power System security with efficiency of monitoring real-time system parameters & Switching operations are carried out.
3. To monitor and ensure continuous electricity supply, within the prescribed values of limit violations, giving priority to security and safety.
4. To regulate the voltage and frequency, and to control active and reactive power flow.
5. To attend the system faults and to take necessary decisions then and there to restore the system back to normal and to restore supply (in case of power failure) at the earliest, limiting interruption time to minimum.
6. To monitor & control the power flow on 380 kV Inter-tie connecting MARAFIQ & Saudi Electric Company network through AGC.
7. To keep watch & to control the loading of gas turbine & steam turbine units as per Economic Dispatch (EDC) principles through AGC, keeping in view the power demand as well as production of treated water through HRSGs.
8. To direct the switching operations by giving instructions to field operators in carrying-out switching at 380kV, 115kV, 34.5kV & 13.8kV primary substations in strict compliance with department safety rules and regulations.
9. To direct the operation staff in the field for safe operations as per standard safety procedures & issuance of PTWs/ tags after ensuring proper isolation/earthing.
10. To prepare daily / monthly system reports & system incident reports.

Evaluate the expected load pattern and start generating units to meet the system load demand & mitigate the risk of system security.
