Modules include: Energy Technologies: Current Issues and Future Directions, Fundamental Concepts in Safety Engineering, Finding Oil: Geosciences in Exploration and Production, Project Management, Oil and Gas Chemistry, Facilities Engineering, Well and Reservoir Engineering and Flow Assurance.
Knowledge gained: Reservoir modelling, geochemistry, basin analysis, exploration processes, hydrocarbon indicators and 3D/4D modelling. I have gained an extensive overview of the oil and gas sector.
A general overview of the different energy sectors from Oil and Gas, Coal, Nuclear and Renewable and how they contribute towards the world demand for energy.
Concepts in Safety Engineering and reliability of pumps, valves, subsea systems...etc and how to ensure providing safe equipments and environment of work by eliminating or at least reducing greatly and factor of failure that may lead to risk of injury or death.
The study of earth Geology, reading contour maps and identifying areas where oil and gas may exist abundance and provide economic reason for exploration and production.
Introduction in project management learning about managing teams, framing, risk, option generation, project appraisal, scheduling, estimating and project control.
Covered a range of subjects from basic chemistry, scaling problems and use of different chemicals that help in stopping their formation. As well as an overview over Hydrate formation, slugging, wax build up, corrosion and erosion, asphaltene deposition and how to disperse these in order to keep the flow smoothly in pipes. As well as learning about oil refinery by studying distillation towers, cracking/coking processes, hydroprocessing and alkylation.
Covered topics in Facilities Engineering such as Processing and utilising three phase separators to separate oil, gas and water before processing. Transportation using pipelines, pumps, compressors and storage. Other topics including measurement, control, integrity management and learning about offshore rigs such as fixed platforms, compliant tower, semi-submersibles and SPAR.
Extensive knowledge in reservoir engineering covering topics in Reservoir rock and fluid properties, Steady and Unsteady fluid flow in porous media, Material balance in reservoir engineering. As well as well engineering gaining general understanding of drill bits, directional drilling, casing design, cementing, well control, well evaluation and completion.
I enjoyed studying Flow Assurance in which I learned about single and multiphase flow, hydrocarbons properties, heat transfer, hydrates and erosion.
