2014 - 2015: International & Domestic Oil

• Personally responsible for the preparation of regular briefings, advice and counsel to senior personnel on all aspects of global oil market fundamentals
• Conducting analysis and evaluation of the outlook for oil markets, including cost / benefit analysis, then producing clear and concise analytical reports to time critical deadlines
• Working closely with key stakeholders, including energy institutions, international oil companies and global Governments, on the development of forecasts and assumptions
• Representing the organisation at key events, including global and national conferences / seminars; developing networks, sharing information and delivering presentations to major institutions and Governments

Key Projects / Achievements

• Drafting impact assessments and business cases on the future of UK refineries as well as compiling analysis on the impact of geopolitical risks on oil markets in the Middle East
• Dealing with commissioning work with values of up to £100k, large-scale global funding projects with values of £2m per annum and major UK projects, such as the £1bn carbon capture / storage project
• Identifying implications for importers and exporters of oil, production cycles and breakeven costs in non-OPEC countries and implications for global supply
• Gaining vast experience of the UK refining sector and challenges faced; drafting impact assessments / analytical notes on the resilience of the UK and European economy with regards to energy security

2013 - 2014: High Speed 2 Limited (Secondment)

• Completing a secondment on the economic case for High Speed 2 (HS2), via the application of MS Excel based modeling, CBA, risk analysis and sensitivity testing
• Collaborating with consultancy teams on the identification of wider economic benefits of HS2, including direct contribution to the drafting of the environmental statement and hybrid bill
• Conducting quality assurance across all models and documents; maintaining a strong attention to detail

Key Projects / Achievements

• Effectively assessing the resilience of the network, with a particular focus on infrastructure, rolling stock and commercial standing as a long-term network for the next generation

2013: Heat Strategy & Policy

• Playing a key role within the Heat Strategy and Policy team, tasked with the creation of the analytical annex for the Heat Strategy document
• Acting as Economic Lead, collaborating with consultants in order to identify potential solutions for industrial waste heat recovery, including advice on research criteria, modeling and economic appraisal
• Undertaking business planning; conducting scoping projects for research, budget and analytical resource requirements

Key Projects / Achievements

• Creating an invitation to tender for consultants to create roadmaps for decarbonising heat intensive industries in the UK by 2050, in partnership with stakeholders, consultants and academics
• Establishing the economic benefit of Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage via collaboration with BIS, involving the production of a business case for funding techno-economic studies

2012 - 2013: Finance & Evaluation

• Accountable for the modelling of NPV for Green Deal loans under varying market interest rates as well as establishing the business case for the Green Deal Financing Company
• Liaising extensively with the EU Commission on the acquisition of state aid approval

Key Projects / Achievements

• Applying strong research skills to produce a baseline, working with academics and facilitating workshops to construct and refine the Green Deal counterfactual
• Creating various economic papers, focused on establishing the counterfactual, value for money and evaluating employment and health impacts
