i stated as a volunteer in an organization called Aid Foundation which is working on health relative activities such as HIV/Aids interventions and prevention, with referrals of suspects of Tuberculosis. it also carryout enrollment of orphans and vulnerable children that are affected or infected by HIV/AIDs. its last project was on conflict management and peace building which is a DFID funded project that has identified states and communities that are affected by war/conflicts be it ethnic, political of religious.
I was the program officer OVC programing and program officer conflict and peace building at an LGA called Kaduna South. my roles are:-
- Carryout identification, assessment and enrolment of infected or affected orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) with the aim of rendering services
- Assisted in program implementation and execution at the community level such as village savings and loans association (VSLA) community farming, technical support for PLWHA support groups.
- Prepared and send monthly reports to funder
- Carryout community mobilization, counseling and testing and make referrals where applicable
- Carryout care and support to PLWHAs and Vulnerable children through home visits and escort services
- Aid in facilitating school visits and meetings with care givers of vulnerable children.
- Data collection of OVCs, PLWHAs and community members that were enrolled or participated in the project and send as a report to the funder.
As for the conflict resolution sector i was responsible for:-
- Carryout advocacy at LGA and community level to engage them in peace building and conflict management.
- Organize and Facilitate town hall meetings with community members to understand the need for community participation in peace building.
- Helped in selection of security and key stakeholders in the community through the LGA secretariat under the leadership of the chairman of the LGA.
- Organize trainings for the selected stakeholder on mitigation, conflict management/sensitivity, human rights, early warning early response mechanisms, report writing and referrals.
- Linking the community based program with government employment and empowerment programs
- Collate monthly and quarterly reports from the community and LGA level to be shared with the State Conflict Management Alliance (SCMA) for further analysis and implementation.
- Help in setting up a project sustainability plan
- Drawing up of monthly and quarterly work plan for the project implementation.
- Monitoring and evaluation of the project and analyzing its impact
