Assisting an Anaesthesiologist in providing anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgery, Therapeutic and Diagnostic Procedures as required, in patients of all age groups from newborn to the very elderly.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:

1.Assisting an Anaesthesiologist during course of Regional and General Anaesthesia, Intensive care unit.PostAnaesthesia care unit and Pain Managment Clinic.
2.Checking and preparing of operating room for Anaesthesia procedures.
3.Operates calibrates and performs routine maintenance on variety of anaesthetic equipment and machines used in operating room.
4.Preparing Anaesthetic drugs and medicines according to dosaage.
5.Watch patients and monitor their vital signs before, during and after procedures.Care of patient under different position of Anaesthesia.
6.Maintenance approprate inventory levels of supplies and equipments related to Anaesthesia care.
7.Prepare, clean, disinfects and troubleshoots all Anaesthesia related equipment and supplies.
8.Maintaning records related to equipment status and repairs made.
9.Assist in periodical performance checks on monitors, Anaesthesia machine powered equipments.Contacts service representatives to arrange for equipment repair.
10.Reciving delivery of supplies and pharaceutical and stores them in proper location.
11.Cleans, at end of the day, individual anaesthesia carts and anaesthesia workroom and ensure that workroom is left neat and well organized for the following day.
12.Uses caustic and flamabe liquids in cleaning disinfecting equipment and material used in Anaesthesia.
13.Checking Anaesthesia machine every morning prior to surgery to ensure that the gas scavenging system is attached and the suction apparatus is attached and functioning.
14.Attaches monitoring devices, such as ECG electrods, BP cuff and Temprature probe to patient prior to Anaesthesia.
15.Assist Anaesthesiologist during induction of Anaesthesia and Tracheal intubation as well as during maintenance of and recovery from Anaesthesia.


16.Understanding sequence of procedures required for rapid induction and intubation used in emergency cases.Performs Sellick’s Maneuver(cricoid pressure) as required.





17.Changing soda lime and compressed gas cylender as required.


18.Between cases removes soiled material from anaesthesia machine and anaesthesia cart and replace it with clean or sterile material as required.

19.Positioning of patient for spinal and epidural anaesthesia with awareness of requirment of a sterile technique for the procedure.
20.Replacing ECG, BIS electrods, breathing circuits and suction apparatus after each case.

21.Maintains confidentially of patients records and the activities in the O.R
22.Maintains awareness of safety hazards and takes necessary action to prevent accidents.

23.Participates in fire and disaster plan drills.

24.Answer phone and relays messages.

25.Assist and help other Anaesthesia Technician with their duties in order to learn how to set up, calibrate and operate all anaesthesia equipment and monitors.

26.Attands monthly staff meetings and attends monthly infection control in-service.Attands when invited department meetings or O.R.meetings on a regular basis.

27.Understands procedures used and assist with C.P.R. in the O.R.

28.Learn and keep current with the name of equipment, supplies and pharmacological agents and is familiar with location of same.

29.Share ‘’on call’’ rotation to provide assistance for emergency surgeries during other than normal hours, i.e. nights, weekends and holidays.


30.Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by Chief Anaesthesia Technician in O.R. or other Anaesthetist in O.R.


31.Supervises and maintains appropriate documentation on the ‘’controlled drugs’’used in O.R.
