Worked as an Environmental Engineer, Modeled Sewer
Collections System for the following Basins: Broad Creek,
Parkway, Paint Branch and Watts Branch. The basins cover a total
area of approximately 50, 000 Acres. ArcGIS was used to build the sewer network module including: Sewer Pipes, Manholes, Pump
Stations, Wastewater Treatment Plants and Forcemains. The
resulting network was imported into InfoWorks (CS) Software for validation, and error correction. Observed data from the field such as rainfall, consumption and billing data were processed using
CDM analysis program SHAPE. The use of SHAPE program was
necessary to determine dry weather flow (DWF) and wet weather
flow (WWF) enabling the modeling team to work out groundwater
infiltration in all the sewers. The model was finally calibrated and verified. The calibrated model was applied to evaluate the capacity of the existing sanitary sewer to convey flows for 2-year and 10- year design storm rainfall events. This study also indentified
options for addressing capacity - related concerns including
overflows.
