Reporting to the Head of Wholesale Credit of Barwa Bank, a fully Sharia compliant Islamic Bank. I am currently responsible for the validation, evaluation, approval or onward recommendation of credit requests from Corporate Banking, Business/SME Banking and Private Banking Group of the Bank.

Major job responsibilities include,

• Evaluate credit request packages from Corporate Banking & Business Banking teams with distinct portfolio of complex counterparties. Front-to-end credit risk management including counterparty financial analysis, scenario analysis and stress-testing and regular monitoring of counterparty performance to identify any emerging credit risk.
• Review credit applications and comments/justification of the business teams. Investigating the existing client history, Identify key information and synopsis of the potential customer. Write critics on the rationale and justifications provided by the RMs.
• Plan and lead Credit Review teams on number of on-site credit review assignments in areas of specialization; lead and participate in desk reviews. Guides team members to ensure that approved Credit Review objectives are met and ensure that the credit proposals are properly analyzed and are in line with the Banks set strategy, policies and guidelines.
• Develop a robust risk and control culture, advice business units on structuring credit facilities to better suit the customers and maximize risk return. Thereby assisting business teams in meeting their revenue targets and build a strong relationship with the front office.
• Demonstrate sound credit judgment in analysis and seek to find solutions to Credit proposals. Approve/Recommend/Reject Credit Applications within the policy parameters of the bank in line with the approval authority matrix.
• Validation of obligor risk rating and regular monitoring of counterparty performance to identify any emerging credit risk.
• Maintain up-to-date awareness of the market, industry sectors and clients, inorder to maintain a proactive stance on overall portfolio by having active discussions with business units and ensure that risk considerations are part of relationship strategies.
• Work within specified Turnaround Time (TAT) agreements for Transaction Tickets and Credit Applications. Liaise with Relationship Managers/Unit Heads/Segment Heads as required for any queries including screening, structuring and/or eliminating new deals & prompt disposal of cases.
• Attend exit meetings with business units to discuss all pertinent issues and remove factual inaccuracies, if any.
• Participates in review of the Bank’s Credit Policy and provides value addition input. Develop Nationals as directed by Management.
• Presently leading a team of three (3) Credit Managers to cater for the entire portfolio of the Bank that comprises of 4 Units from Corporate Banking having 7 Relationship Managers, 3 Units in Business Banking with 9 Relationship Managers and the Private Banking team with 4 Relationship Managers.
• Have recently also been mandated to undertake the credit approval process of a Leasing Company fully owned by Barwa Bank.
• In absence of the Head of Wholesale Credit since December 2011, I have participated in over 25 Credit Committee Meetings of the Bank as a Member and Secretary.

As the Credit Review Manager, reporting to the Head of Credit Department, my Job responsibilities included;

• Review and assess credit requests received from Corporate Banking Group. Carryout counterparty financial analysis, sensitivity analysis and stress-testing and regular monitoring of counterparty performance to identify any emerging credit risk

• Prepare Credit Assessment Note with my recommendation for the final approval of the Credit & Investment Committee
• Validate proposed facility and obligor risk rating and monitor updating process.
• Evaluate the Bank’s exposure against the set credit policy (concentration, risk rating, segment etc).
• Carry out timely identification of undue risk elements and relate to relationship manager and seek corrective action or rejection of application.
