-Performing breakdown, routine and
scheduled maintenance of all Diesel
Locomotives in the fleet; Diesel Electric
(96XX, 94XX, 93XX, 86XX, 76XX) Diesel
Hydraulic (62XX, 47XX Diesel Multiple Units
DMU)
-Carry out overhaul on Locomotive Diesel
engines; General-electric, Cummins and Rolls
Royce.
-Promote, observe and adhere to the outlined
locomotive and workshop safety procedures.
-Perform detailed inspection, trouble shoot
and correct faults and failures on the
locomotive
-Service and repair of transmission system,
hydraulic motor, hydraulic lines and all
hydraulic components on Diesel hydraulic
locomotives.
-Carry out inspection and maintenance on all
diesel locomotive components, systems and
accessories such as; compressor, generators,
air system, power contactors, traction motors,
hydraulic/transmission system, electrical
system.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and keep
accurate work records.
-Attend to locomotive failure and derailments
in the field

Checking equipment and operating systems on a regular basis.
Ensuring machinery is at optimum performance.
Performing troubleshooting and tests on equipment or machinery.
Performing required repairs.
Installing preventative measures to avoid potential malfunctions.
Handling tools like power tools and rigging equipment.
Carrying out hot work such as welding and cutting.
Solving issues regarding motor, conveyor and hydraulic equipment.
Operating equipment like forklifts.
Maintaining the workshop, warehouse and tools area.
Assisting project engineers as requested.
Complying with company safety guidelines.

Performing inspections on the locomotive before and after runs.
Safely operating the train between stations.
Identifying obstructions and giving warning signals at track crossings.
Monitoring on-board meters and gauges including air pressure, battery charge, amperage, and train speed.
Communicating with traffic control concerning stops, oncoming trains, and delays.
Troubleshooting minor breakdowns.
Performing basic locomotive maintenance when required.
Communication with passengers about delays and unscheduled stops.
Ensuring logbooks and manuals are correctly stowed in the cabin.
Completing reports on delays and breakdowns
