Financial and accounting oversight of a manufacturer and distributor of vehicle parts & accessories, with a heavy operational focus. Revenues increased three-fold during tenure. Redesigned accounting system / ERP and integration with inventory management system. Created several iterations of algorithms, business rules, and management control systems for purchasing and ordering to reduce stock-outs and significantly shorten customer order times. Instituted functional divisional approach to organization including quality control circles and the beginnings of statistical process control. Encouraged independence of personnel and decreased top-down approach along Deming/Japanese business methods.

Coverage of financial statements (income statement, retained earnings, balance sheet, cash flows). Through well-intentioned student protest and media contact on my behalf, very inadvertently became a national figure in academic freedom issues and a recognizable defender of people of color against media bias.

Chief financial manager for machine tools controls OEM. Firm designs software and hardware to control multi-axis machine tools ranging from knee mills through mass production to custom manufacture of medical and biological devices. Normal accounting duties of a controller, including preparation of quarterly and annual reports, closing and adjusting entries, monthly reconciliation and consolidation with Japanese and Korean offices, and preparation for external audit and tax filings. Financial analysis, cash management, forecasting, and budgeting. Job costing policies, procedures, supervision. Governmental accounting including federal acquisition regulations and defense contract audit preparation.

Design and management of changes in ERP software and accounting control systems, including but not limited to a/p and a/r processes, internal tracking and allocation mechanisms, project reporting and analysis, inventory management systems, and sourcing decisions.
