My final year research examined how fluctuations in global oil prices influenced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Nigeria over a 30-year period spanning 1994 to 2024. Using a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), the study explored both the short-run dynamics and long-run equilibrium relationship between oil prices and consumer price levels in Nigeria. Given Nigeria's dependence on imported refined petroleum products despite being a major crude oil exporter, oil price shocks were found to have a significant pass-through effect on the general price level of goods and services — shedding light on inflation behavior and its drivers within the Nigerian economy.
