Educational Work in Afghanistan
Working with an Afghan based team, designed a time focused capacity building training for all identified positions for the Provincial Joint Secretariat Team and Provincial Peace Councils in order to improve organizational effectiveness. Modules focused on leadership, management, project cycle, grievance identification, community assets, and demobilization skills.
•Designed TOT and mentored Afghan trainers to deliver training in three regional locations
As part of a hand over effort towards sustainability, created a pedagogy manual and training for Global Rights Criminal, Civil and Family law trainings
•Conducted initial assessment with Global Rights staff and university leadership to understand teaching methodology and training needs
•Taught Global Rights Sustainability Training to Law and Shari’s professors
Designed and delivered and Academic Legal English program for Shari’a professors at Kabul University
•Designed and taught an Academic Legal English TOT Program for Afghan Law and Shari’a professors of nine Afghan universities to complete advanced Legal English studies.
•Oversaw the publication of four legal English textbooks currently used across Afghanistan; Human Rights, Criminal Law, The National Assembly, Law for Young Lawyers. Served as University of Washington representative to Law and Shari’a faculties.
•Designed an integrated ten-week intensive Academic Legal English course that integrated English with human rights, international and criminal law. Managed course from 2008-2012
•Designed three week Academic Legal English Academy, taught law and Shari’a Legal English graduates basic methodology and Legal English text writing skills.
•Conducted cross-cultural orientation; managed administrative tasks regarding legal applications for LL.M programs in the states.
Managed Faculty Development Stream to build capacity at seven provincial universities in Afghanistan, emphasis on female faculty participation
•Using HEP Gender Analysis Report findings, conducted focus groups to identify barriers to faculty promotion and access to opportunities for female faculty members
•Designed and delivered TOT to Afghan trainers for Using Case Studies as a Teaching Tool, Problem Based Learning and Academic Research. Trainings were subsequently delivered to professors from 18 Universities.
Designed and delivered Legal English TOT for legal candidates wishing to instruct at the Kosovo Judicial Training Center. Course focused on students creating teaching materials to learn the role of the ICC, case study and legal academic research.
•Conducted Legal English needs assessment at Office of the President, Parliament Affairs, Supreme Court, Judicial Education and Prime Minister’s Officer and other government entities. The needs assessment resulted in the implementation of a Legal English program at the Office of the President and the Attorney Generals Office.
As part of a team, conducted external evaluation for three education projects for USAID: Afghan-e-Quality Alliance, PACE-A and Youth Empowerment Project.
•Created data collection instruments, analyzed data, drafted sections of final reports, conducted focus groups and semi-structured interviews.
•Responsible to extrapolate best practices and gaps in services regarding content, teacher training and promised deliverables of partners

Developed, implemented and administered standardized Legal English training and materials package for over 5000 law and Sharia students at five universities, the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court. Courses emphasized integration of legal vocabulary from level 1-4.

•Instituted the Intensive Academic Legal English ( ALE) program for high achieving law and Sharia students resulting in 9 Fulbright’s, 6 Private Partnership and 10 Indian Scholarships in Law and Political Science; assisted with job placement into ministries and NGOs.
