CBI Project Manager for Borouge 3 Project. Client was Hyundai Engineering and Construction. CBI scope of work included engineering, procurement and construction of a 50 m Dia Full Containment, Double Wall, Ethylene Storage tank and two spheres in Ruwais, United Arab Emirates ($20M)

I was directly responsible for the execution and success of the project from precontract negotiations with our client, Hyundai, in Korea to engineering design, procurement, subcontracts, fabrication, safety, site construction, testing, painting and completion. The project consisted of one 50 M Dia, full containment Ethylene tank, a 16 Meter Dia Butene Sphere and a 25 M Dia Ethane Sphere. I attended a number of design review meetings with CBI engineering and the client in Korea. I composed the project execution plan and was responsible for assembling the project team and conveying the plan to all project team members. I was the focal point of contact for our client, Hyundai, for all aspects of the project.

I reported to the Vice President of Operations in Dubai. The Project Management Team, PMT, consisting of the project engineering manager, procurement manager, project controls manager, commercial manager, quality manager, and site construction manager reported to me. I was responsible for the success of the project and attended monthly review meetings with CBI senior management in Dubai and via teleconference with the company president in The Woodlands, Texas, USA.

I had to have a thorough understanding of all technical aspects of the project with input from department heads as well as a strong commercial awareness. I was responsible for ensuring CBI followed the requirements of the contract, various codes and standards as well as all safety requirements.

Commercially I had full responsibility for all project costs / cost forecasts, ensuring invoicing was up to date and handled the change management process to ensure any changes to work scope or schedule were captured and handled appropriately with the client.

CBI Project Manager for Barzan Project, JGC for Rasgas. Work scope included engineering procurement and construction of 41 miscellaneous petrochemical process and storage tanks, Ras Laffan, Qatar (Value $28M)

I was directly responsible for the execution and success of the project from precontract negotiations with JGC in Japan to engineering design (by CBI, Houston, USA), procurement, subcontracts, fabrication, site safety, construction, testing, painting and completion. The project consisted of 28 different tank designs spread over a large site. I composed the project execution plan and was responsible for conveying the plan to all project team members. Where required, I arranged subcontractors to carry out site works e.g. painting, NDE, tank calibration, etc. The construction work was self performed by CBI. At peak the site manpower reached 400 people. I was the focal point of contact for our client, JGC, for all aspects of the project. I presented the monthly progress report and the quarterly Senior Management Safety Meeting report to JGC and Rasgas senior management.

Internally, I reported to CBI’s Vice President of Operations in Dubai. The Project Management Team, PMT, assembled by me and consisting of the project engineering manager, procurement manager, project controls manager, commercial manager, quality manager, safety manager and site construction manager reported to me. I was responsible for the success of the project and attended monthly review meetings with CBI senior management in Dubai and via teleconference with the company president in The Woodlands, Texas, USA.

The scope of work included engineering, procurement, construction, E+I, testing and painting of fourteen 70 M Dia Double Deck Floating Roof condensate tanks and two Full Containment LPG tanks, Ras Laffan, Qatar (Value $150M)

I was directly responsible for the success of the project from engineering design, procurement, subcontracts, fabrication, site construction, testing, painting and completion. The project consisted of 14 x 70 M Dia Double Deck Floating Roof Tanks and 2 x 90 M Dia Full Containment LPG Tanks. The scope of work included tank foundations, tanks construction, painting, testing, E+I, piping and nitrogen purging of the LPG tanks. Engineering design and detailing was carried out at CBI’s engineering office in Chicago, USA. I was the focal point of contact for the project.

The project consisted of 9 tanks in various locations on site and a 180 M high flare stack. Kazakhstan presented unique challenges from extreme weather conditions to training of local labour.

The tanks were designed for storage of desalinated water for use by the city of Abu Dhabi. The tanks were internally coated with food grade paints and required disinfection before going into service.
