As healthcare facilities such as nursing care facilities and hospitals will perform many technical duties. Some of the responsibilities of a practical nurse include monitoring vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, etc.) and wound care. LPNs also administer medications to patients orally, by injection and topically on the skin. In some states, practical nurses start, and discontinue IVs as well as push IV medications. They may also be permitted to administer blood and blood products. The scope of practice may vary from state to state.
