The course is designed to provide education in the current theory and practice of chemical and process systems engineering from a technical and management perspective and simultaneously to consolidate Ubuntu/unhu. 　　　　On completion of the course the graduate should be able to: Apply principles and techniques learnt to the chemical and mechanical design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, development and improvement of machines and equipment of processing plant including complete processing plants; incorporating skills acquired in chemical technology. Demonstrate competence in current theory and practice of chemical and process systems engineering. Apply principles learnt to chemical product formulation. Use the techniques appropriate for the management of modern process plants Apply skills to rehabilitate existing process manufacturing facilities. Apply skills in creating knowledge and manufacturing technology using Zimbabwean raw materials in the production of manufactured goods. Understand the way in which risk analysis and management, and environmental management apply to the operation of a process plant. Be able to teach technical subjects at vocational levels after completing pedagogical courses. Be orientated not only in the technical sphere but also in the philosophical, political, economical and social spheres and thus should be able to actively participate in public, political and cultural life. Be able to exploit indigenous knowledge systems in design, construction and operation of process plants. Be able to carry out research and development, which can be used in chemical industry. See opportunities and as such be able to create wealth for oneself, for the community and the nation at large. Understand Zimbabwe, all its tapped and untapped resources. Material presented in the course subjects is generic and thus applicable to the design, operation and control of a wide range of process plants.

The programme includes subjects such as General and Organic Chemistry, Physics and Electronics, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Drawing, Microbiology and Biochemistry. This course helps one develop a strong foundation upon which one's chemical engineering career can be built upon.
