The water balance study included all components such as the environment, downstream requirements, irrigation, industry, water supply, and groundwater recharge. The crop water requirements for different proposed crop patterns were determined and analyzed to support decision-makers in introducing sugar cane to the Gezira scheme.

* Water treatment unit in Faw city. This is the main water supply station implemented to supply the city with drinking water.
* Sondos main pump station (Khartoum city). This is the main pump station for Sondos agricultural scheme, South of Khartoum, and it pumps water from the White Nile to irrigate the scheme.
