I am now working as a Registered nurse for Johannesburg health district in Gauteng South Africa
Providing a variety of Primary healthcare services including, Antenatal and Pistnatal services, Curative servjces in Acute department, EPI immunization servjces, Chronic Care on NCDs including ART initiations, follow up care and Counselling services. Suturing, dressings, Emergency care, Phlebotomy services. Other Administrative duties including Report writting, Research, Duty rooster scgeduling and duty allocation.
Drug and medicines ordering and Other community services like Screenjng, Awareness, Case, detection and Surveilance
on locum basis at the two above named hospitals.
Responsibilities
•Medical/Surgical wards
•Administrative
•Duty allocation to subordinates
•Supervising subordinates in general patient care
•Ordering medication for patients from pharmacy
•Doing doctors’ rounds and caring out orders accordingly
•Checking and replenishing emergency trollies in the wards
•Checking and signing for schedules 5, 6 and 7 drugs and keeping them under lock and key.
•Taking any other orders from the unit manager and other senior management
•Preventive/Promotive
•Ensuring that infection prevention and control protocols are observed in the ward, e.g. proper hand washing technique, proper refuse disposal and appropriate use of protective clothing
•Giving information on patients and relatives on infection prevention in the ward
•Administering medication as ordered by the doctors
•Ensuring that vital signs are done accordingly
•Reporting any abnormalities observed as soon as possible to doctors/nurse manager
•Rehabilitative
•Ensuring that physiotherapy is done to patients as ordered by the doctors(inform physiotherapist)
•Giving instruction at discharge to patients on continued care
•Educating relatives at discharge on patient care and support
Preventive
•Immunisations and growth monitoring.
•Giving supplements, Vitamin A, Albendazole.
•Conducting
Support and supervision of all clinics (health clinics) under my care.
•Report writing.
•Training of primary health care staff and facilitating during workshops.
•In-service trainings.
•Visiting and inspection of rural health centers.
•Counseling individuals, couples, families and subordinates.
•Doing appraisals or Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for subordinates.
•Doing mass immunisations - responding to disease outbreaks.
•Conducting disease surveillance including active search.
•Conducting awareness campaigns
•Teaching students attached - community secondment.
•Schools, crèches and prison visits.
•Report writing and record keeping, including compilation of statistics.
Admitting patients who are in labour
•Doing feto-maternal observations and plotting the patogram
•Voluntary and provider initiated HIV rapid testing
•Monitoring patients in labour - labour progress.
•Conducting deliveries.
•Health education on labour delivery and peur-perium including postnatal exercises and diet.
•Teaching on baby care to preterm mothers.
•Giving immunisation to newborn babies
•Conducting initial examination to newborn babies
•Report writing and record keeping including the delivery register.
•Ordering medicines, stationery and equipment.
•Giving pethidine to patients as ordered/prescribed by the doctor.
•PMTCT including infant feeding counseling on HIV positive mothers.
Basic nursing care including feeding, bathing of patients, counseling the bereaved families.
•Administering medicines to patients.
•Duty allocation and writing off duties when assigned.
•Report writing, handing over report and record keeping.
•Stock control and inventory.
•Attending departmental meetings.
•HIV Counseling and Testing
•Monitoring IV infusions including blood and blood products.
•Teaching and counseling students as well as assisting during clinical assessments.
•Induction and orientation of new members of staff when assigned.
•Assisting doctors during ward rounds and carrying out doctor’s orders.
Degree in management, Nurse education and Community nurse completed. Iam a Mid level manager with great experience of more than 20years.
