•Ensuring the implementation of the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System including EMP’s, HSSE Plan, policies, procedures etc.
•Responsible for maintaining Environmental Management System to ISO Standards 14001:2004 as well as ensuring Continuous Improvement
•Participation in the annual stakeholder meetings with the key stakeholders such as the community, Government Institutions etc.
•Participation in the incident steering committee in which accidents and incidents are investigated for root cause and ensuring that the recommended remedial actions are implemented and closed out.
•Implementation of the waste management Plan according to the Kenyan waste management regulations and other more stringent regulations
•Participation in the Oil spill drills/trainings organized by OSMAG and Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA)
•Conducting site safety inspections and reporting findings to action parties
•Providing specialist environmental, health and safety advice to both management and staff( KPRL and Contractor)
•Conduct regular audits such as Permit to Work (PTW) audits, Housekeeping audits, Safety at work always (SAWA) audits, HSE MS Audits and Internal ISO 14001:2004 audits
•Reporting Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) status through the updated HSSE statistics and HSSE performance overview
•Participate in Job safety Analysis ( JSA) of activities within the KPRL site
•Co-ordinate Refinery HSE Committee meetings ( Secretary)
•Participating in the emergency response trainings and drills
•Ensuring documents are properly maintained and updated/ reviewed
•Promoting health and safety within the organization and develop safer and healthier ways of working

During this period, I worked on my final year project-water quality evaluation of Ruiru River.
The main objective was to evaluate the spatial and temporal variation of the water quality of Ruiru River, and the specific objectives was to identify the main sources of pollutants and entry points, characterizing the water quality parameters and developing ways of controlling the pollution of Ruiru River.
The project employed the use of remote sensing and GIS tools to plot the map of the project area including the sampling points.
