Thermal Equipment Engineering Group

As a cognizant engineer of the Thermal Equipment Engineering group, the area of work is on Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), Steam Surface Condensers, Cooling Towers and Rotor Air Cooler Kettle Boilers.

• Prepare design technical specifications for the above equipment’s based upon customer specification and different design codes such as ASME section I (Boiler Code), Section VIII division I (Pressure Vessels), Heat Exchange Institute (HEI) standards, Tabular Exchange Manufacturing Association (TEMA) etc.
• Review of vendor drawings, erection procedures, shop fabrication procedure.
• Prepare process & instrumentation diagram and associated instruments list.
• Review vendors proposal technically and commercially in order to select a fit vendor
• Responsible of project management and review of all vendors deliverables.
• Responsible for interface with the vendor, A/E and trouble shooting related issues that might arise at site during project commissioning."

As a group Technical Lead for the Steam Surface Condenser and the Rotor Air Cooler Kettle Boiler Heat Exchangers, I had the following responsibilities:

• Prepare a standard design for both of these equipments in order to reduce the engineering hours and the cost involved.
• Standardizing the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) System used in the Heat Recovery Steam Generator to minimize the exhaust Nox from the gas turbine.
• Perform Finite Element Analysis calculations on Heat Recovery Steam Generators to come up with the best Tube to Header Connection and have been published in the ASME magazine.
• Position also involved heavy customer contact centered on bid proposals, vendor specifications and client support.
• Support to marketing/sales groups in order to secure more orders and applications group during bid proposals stage.
• Involved in many “Site Readiness Review” and perform complete check of the HRSG, rotor air cooler and the condenser.

One of the main challenges was to come up with a first time engineering Air/Fuel heat exchanger design to be used in conjunction with a Fin/Fan cooler used to heat up the fuel gas for better performance and to set up the control philosophy description for both of these systems and perform site commissioning of the system. The system was used in two different projects in Mexico and were successfully commissioned.

As a cognizant engineer of the Balance of Plant group, my scope of work included working on Fuel Gas Heaters, Fuel Gas Compressors, Fuel Gas Skid system and system design of main steam, feedwater, condensate and fuel systems.

• Prepare system design specifications (Design Basis & Functional Requirements).
• Prepare flow schematics and equipment specifications with calculations to support the design.
• Coordinate with supply management to procure the equipment’s.
• Support Erection/Commissioning activities at site including inspection, resolution of site issues.
