Throughout my University career, I was expected to follow, compare and contrast Media sources in both French and English as a language-learning tool and point of discussion with my peers. I have had the opportunity to deconstruct and analyse advertising campaigns, political speeches, radio programmes, newspaper articles and television news broadcasts. I was also able to construct my own arguments in presentations and numerous written assignments. I particularly enjoyed researching and producing an investigative written piece into European Language Policy and the dominance of the English language in the EU. I also took part in the Student Associates Scheme, an enterprise which sees current students carrying out placements in Greater Manchester secondary schools with a view to introducing Higher Education to young people from diverse backgrounds, most of whom have little or no direct experience of the sector. My involvement in this scheme developed my skills in presenting and team working, and also bears witness to my ability to communicate successfully and sensitively with groups of people with differing expectations and requirements.
