BP RUMAILA PHASE 1 SOUTH (FWKO) PROJECT - ROO - Iraq

The Rumaila oilfield is experiencing increased water production as the field matures. The existing processing facilities across the Rumaila oilfield are designed to manage small volumes of water through the use of electrostatic coalescer separators, but these are designed to manage oil polishing rather than bulk water removal.
The Free Water Knockout project has been initiated across 4 degassing stations in the South to install 3 phase separation at the front end of the process to remove water before it enters the existing facilities.

The detailed design scope includes all engineering pertaining to the tie-in, hook-up, integration and installation of;
The FWKO flowlines running from the existing process to each FWKO vessel package.
The crude outlet lines running from each FWKO vessel package /crude outlet manifold to the existing process.
The Basrah Gas Company (BGC) gas export line and fuel gas line running from each FWKO vessel package.
The produced water line running from the produce water manifold to the PWD skid.
The instrument air line(s) from the existing instrument air system to PEG’s packages.

Activities underway for progression of the project are:
Preparation of PFDs and P&IDs (Construct and Destruct) for both sites.

Due to the sour nature of the fluids being processed, elemental sulphur will be produced as a by-product.
This project scope includes designing of Acid gas Enrichment Unit, 2x65% Sulphur Recovery Unit (based on Shell’s Modified Claus reactor design technology), common Sulphur Degassing and Incinerator facilities with common Sulphur Pouring and Blocking area.
Worked as Area Lead Process Engineer on the Sulphur Recover Unit.
The Sulphur Recovery Unit consists of two identical modified Claus Units in parallel (2X65%) with two catalytic stages with common degasser and incinerator with a minimum Sulphur recovery unit efficiency of 99.9% producing 215 tonnes/day of elemental Sulphur.
