The SIM card order management process is interfaced with Oracle ERP suite for creating a Purchase Order automatically. The order is fulfilled immediately if the ordered quantity is available in store, if not order is placed with Ebtikar (Etisalat's subsidiary) for manufacturing SIM cards. The order is delivered to the main office of the retailer by courier service.

SAPS is the main front-end application for Commercial staff at the branches for handling customer requests such as New, Cessation, Number Change, Transfer applications for all types of products offered by ETISALAT.

LOCNET is a sub-system which handles on-line requests from SAPS for automatic Allocation & Reservation, Reservation Cancellation, Circuit Installation and Cessation of circuits for PSTN based products such as Telephones, Payphones, ISDN lines, Leased Lines, Internet Dial-up and data lines. It is tightly coupled with SAPS and serves day-to-day activities of Commercial department.

The Records & Routing (R&R) Department maintain the LOCNET system. The various equipment such as Main Distribution Frame (MDF), Optical Distribution Frame (ODF), Copper / Fibre / ONU cabinets, Distribution Point (DP) / Sub DP's and cable pairs with their status (Spare, Reserved, Blocked, Faulty, Working) are created and maintained in LOCNET database. The main departments which constantly feed information to R&R are External Planning / Works, Operations Maintenance Control (OMC), Subscriber Services and Cable Transmission departments.

Previously LOCNET used to support only the Copper network. First name hidden was responsible for redesigning the complete LOCNET system to incorporate facilities to create and maintain the Buildings database with the sub/local/floor DP's and Flat#, Socket#. Additionally, incorporated the support for two new networks based on the Fibre cables viz. Fibre Optic cabinets (Active network) and Giga Passive Optical Network (GPON) . Also, added facility to support Pre-wired Buildings concept, which can be implemented on any of the networks - Copper, FO cabinets & GPON.

Etisalat has two systems viz. LOCNET & GIS that complement each other by maintaining logical & physical line plant inventory respectively. Both the systems are used by different engineering sections and hence resulted in dual data entry and sometimes in data discrepancies. To minimize this, it was decided to enhance the integration between the two systems so that data once captured in GIS system by the planning/commissioning section is propagated to LOCNET automatically. Any additional data needed in LOCNET would be entered by the Customer Services section.

A new middleware based on web-services model was designed & developed to facilitate 2-way interaction between the 2 systems. This initiative greatly reduced the dual data entry & the discrepancies thereof and streamlined day-to-day work of both the sections.

To facilitate this requirement a middleware was designed on J2EE platform based on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles and best practices. It was designed to expose it services via web-services contract to the consumer self-care portals thereby providing a uniform interface. The middleware would route requests based on the Region Code and transform request & response headers to suite the relevant back-end billing system. The new systems (CBCM) exposed its services via web-services and the old system (CCB) exposed its services via the BEA Tuxedo Transaction Monitoring system service calls.

ABACUS is one of the major components of the CHRYSALIS project underway at Xerox China/Hong Kong Operations. Initially it would be implemented at Xerox Hong Kong and then at Xerox China and other countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, etc. In the CHRYSALIS solution, all the customer information is maintained by the Accounts Receivable (AR) module of Oracle Financials application and the MIF (Machine in field) and servicing information is maintained by Tesseract application, a third party packaged software being tailored for Xerox's requirements. The major objective of the proposed contract management application is to integrate these two distinct components, apart from providing a simple and flexible user interface to set up, update and monitor various types of contracts, and invoicing the customers. It is an on-line client/server application, but some of the reports and background processes such as billing, downloading Tesseract application data are implemented as batch processes.
