During my internship as a medical laboratory Scientist, I gained hands-on experience conducting various diagnostic tests, from analyzing blood samples to identifying pathogens. This internship provided a unique opportunity to witness the intersection of technology and healthcare. The disciplines I covered include:
• Pathology (Immunohistochemistry, staining, embedding & cutting)
• Molecular (HLA typing, PCR, DNA & RNA extraction)
• Cytology (slide making of constitutional and acquired chromosomal abnormalities)
• Parasitology (urinalysis, microscopy),
• Blood bank (Donor questionnaire), Serology (quantitative interferon, direct & indirect ELISA)
• Hematology (microscopy, CBC)
• Clinical Chemistry (analyzing chemicals and metabolites in blood/fluid samples)
• Bacteriology (subculturing and interpretation)
• Quality Control (SD, median, mean, %CV, regression curves)
