A Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from various sources such as databases, APIs, and cloud platforms. They perform ETL/ELT operations to transform raw data into usable formats for analytics and reporting, while ensuring data quality through validation, cleansing, and consistency checks. They develop and optimize data warehouse solutions, improve query and pipeline performance, and support data migration and modernization initiatives such as moving from on-premises systems to cloud platforms or converting legacy workflows. Additionally, Data Engineers monitor production jobs, troubleshoot failures using logs, and provide ongoing support to ensure system reliability. They implement backup and recovery strategies, manage data security and user access, and collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver efficient data solutions. Proper documentation of processes, workflows, and systems is also a key responsibility, along with continuously improving data architecture and adopting new technologies for better performance and scalability.
