Take past/present medical and obstetric history from patients to analyze risks. Provide comprehensive antenatal services. Conduct risk assessment antenatally through vital signs, foetal heart rate, foetal lie and presentation, maternal urine protein and glucose test, weight, haemoglobin test, past obstetric history, just to mention but a few. Counsel expectant mothers and significant others on signs of labour.
Coordinate patients' care, implement procedures and ensure strict compliance with established hospital policies, health and safety regulations. Reduce risk of complication during labour through close monitoring of maternal vital signs and foetal heart rate patterns. Conduct newborn assessment, implement immediate care and promote healthy growth and development. Perform resuscitation to newborns, provide warmth and encourage immediate breastfeeding. Identify high risk cases and involve the obstetrician /gynaecologist in patients care.
Ensure optimum infection prevention and control measures at all times. Develop trusting relationship with patients through compassionate culturally sensitive care practices.
