Qatar Aluminum (Qatalum), a joint venture between Norsk Hydro of Norway (www.hydro.com) and Qatar Petroleum (www.qp.com.qa), is one of the largest Aluminum Smelter in the world with a yearly capacity of 585, 000 ton of liquid aluminum (USD 6 billion project). I joined Qatalum as Commercial Controller in the Power Group and was promoted as Head of Contracts. As Head of Contracts I am managing the entire spectrum of service acquisitions for Qatalum including multimillion dollar CAPEX projects. My accomplishments in this role are:

• Developed the Section and Department Procedures and trained staff and users on Procedures
• Prepared the Section and Department for audits resulting in obtaining ISO 9001 and ISO TS 16949
• Initiated Procurement Department’s certification for CIPS (www.cips.org) in 2013 and successfully achieved the standard certification for the department in 2014 (3rd Organization in Qatar)
• Lead Commercial teams for major CAPEX (EPC) projects - Cooling Tower Rebuild (40 MUSD), Relining Facility (35 MUSD), 11 kV Modification (20 MUSD) realizing savings of over 20 MUSD
• Developed and implemented department KPIs focusing on improvements in procurement cycle times
• Provided commercial calculations for successful insurance claim (over USD 100 million) to legal team
• Stepped in as acting Procurement Manager during the last three years whenever required

My responsibilities are:

• Develop and execute procurement strategies for best value without compromising safety or quality
• Manage tendering cycle efficiently through issuance, evaluations, clarifications and award stages and seeking required Tendering Committees and Board approvals
• Ensure timely award of contracts and handing over the contract to end users through kick-off meetings
• Lead commercial team on claims and disputes on contracts and assist Company Representative on finalizing determinations on contractor claims and variation requests
• Perform Root Cause Analysis and implement findings using CAPA (Corrective Actions Preventive Actions)

Commercial Controller - Power Group à Qatar Aluminium Limited

As Commercial Controller for the Power Group, I was managing major contracts for the power plant (including
Fuel Gas Supply Agreement with QP, Long Term Services Agreement with GE, Shared Facilities Agreement with Mesaieed Power Station and Grid Connection Agreement with the KahraMaa. My accomplishments were:

• Developed and implemented management system for the Fuel Gas Supply Agreement inclusive of forecasting, nominations and payments verification (Contract value of over USD 1.5 billion 25 years term)
• Developed and implemented a management system for Energy Sharing Agreement inclusive of nominations and verification of payments
• Developed a model to simulate business planning scenarios for power plant and smelter commissioning
ramp up schedule and provide management with an action list to achieve the optimum business results
• Negotiated (one of the three team members) and finalized the Power Supply Agreement with KahraMaa
• Developed the first operating business plan and budget for Power Group for approval by the Board
• Assisted in development of KPIs and PIs for the Power Group
• Commercially Managed the Long Term Services Agreement (LTSA) with GE (>USD 250 million contract)
• Developed and maintained group's risk register during project implementation

Recruited by executive team to lead this role with dual responsibilities to head a procurement team and commercially manage Energy Conversion Agreements with the single client (Saudi Aramco) for a newly built portfolio of four co-generation power plants. As Commercial Manager, heading the Procurement and managing the Energy Conversion Agreements with client (annual revenue of over USD 110 million) my key
accomplishments were:

• Built the procurement team by hiring and training a team of buyers and storekeepers
• Managed implementation of Computerized Procurement System (Maximo)
• Developed a vendor base for sustaining operations in this predominantly supplier's market
• Turned repetitive purchases into term contracts - reduced the procurement cycle by 60%
• Developed and implemented a complete suite of procurement procedures
• Manage commercially the CSA (contractual services agreement) with GE for Gas Turbines
• Managed settlement systems and reduced charge calculations cycle resulting in USD 300k annual savings

CB Richard Ellis Management Services is the Canadian subsidiary of CB Richard Ellis, the largest Property Manager in the world. They had a portfolio of over 12 million square foot of office facilities from East coast to West coast. As a member of the Strategic Sourcing Group, I negotiated, awarded, renewed and managed facilities management contracts including HVAC, lighting, signs, backup power sources (diesel generators and UPS system for data centers) and janitorial services. My accomplishments included large savings and increased service levels for most of the contracts I managed there.

Manager Purchasing and Contracts à International Power

Promoted rapidly during seven years’ career with International Power, through a series of increasingly responsible supply chain management positions, to a final assignment as Manager Purchasing and Contracts. International Power (now part of GDF Suez) is one of the largest Power Generation Companies in the world. Their Pakistani branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the 1292 MW Hub Power station.

As a part of management team for this green field project, I recruited, trained and developed the procurement team. Developed fully competent and qualified vendor base ensuring on time delivery of all goods and services. Developed and implemented procedures to obtain and retain accreditation for ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.
