A project was carried out to improve the transparency of laminates, with
the coating based on melamine-formaldehyde. Problems arising in
production were solved and optimized. Input was given to production.
New insights were found into variables to improve the transparency of
the laminate. They were tested at lab scale using different devices (press,
light microscope, Mahr Surf Mobile Device Microscope,
spectrophotometer, BYK colorimeter, rheology meter, ...) and finally
translated to production scale. A patent was created in a specific topic.
I conducted extensive research on 14 different renewable building
materials based on wood, flax and cotton. In this research project, I
conducted research on the moisture dynamics of renewable building
materials, and the influence of moisture on the service life of these
building materials. After processing and analyzing the data obtained from
the float test and continuous moisture measurement (CMM), I was able
to conclude that renewable building materials can be classified according
to moisture dynamics and that: expanded insulation cork boards, wood
fiber insulation boards, porous bituminous wood fiber boards, thermally
modified spruce and thermally treated spruce, exhibit excellent
moisture dynamics.

I conducted an entire research from the idea to its entire elaboration
by designing and conducting laboratory and field experiments.
Despite the fact that the post mortem interval (PMI) is one of the
most important topics in forensic medicine, there is still no
established method to estimate the time elapsed since a person died.
A correlation study was conducted between the macro- and
microscopic changes of cartilage and the post-mortem period, with a
particular focus on the number of chondrocytes in different types of
cartilage. This was to determine whether these changes could be used
as an estimator of PMI. This was done by macro- and microscopic
analysis, tissue processing, H&E staining, processing and analysis of
the data. New insights were created in this particular topic.
