A Production and development support DBA for Monsanto, a leading agricultural based Bio-technology Company. Part of Monsanto’s DBA group from India, a global team of 18 members jointly responsible for daily administration activities in a 24/7 mission critical applications like Risk Management and Transaction processing. During this tenure, administering over 200 Oracle/MS SQL databases; size varies from 15 GB to 10 TB.
Key Responsibilities
• Setting up databases on UNIX & WINDOWS platform. Subsequently maintaining and supporting as per the application requirement.
• Database upgrade including 11g, patching, migration across different OS and ASM conversation.
• Installation and upgrade of RDBMS related technologies Grid Control and OCM, later its efficient usage.
• Administering backup using RMAN technique. As and when required performing database recovery.
• Monitor and tune affected SQL using Explain Plan, ADDM, Auto trace, AWR and other built-in features.
• Performing research on new features of oracle, introducing it wherever appropriate for the business.
• Optimizing performance of Database using Grid Control and other oracle tools. Tuning of shared pool, buffer cache, redo mechanisms; identify and resolve I/O, data storage and database configuration issues.
• Working with Oracle Support for fixing repeatedly occurring critical software bugs and played lead role in escalated issues.
• Played a coordinator role in major production releases, weekend maintenance activities. Performing BAU activity like Creating/Analyzing primary database objects.
• MS-SQL: Creating new databases and managing and fixing on frequently occurring MS-SQL databases issues.
Worked as a production support DBA for Carlson Companies, a team of 12 jointly responsible for daily administration activities in a 24/7 mission critical applications like Risk Management and Transaction processing. Project involves Monitoring, Database administration and Supporting 300+ Oracle databases and Database size vary from 60 GB to 2.5 Terabytes.
Key Responsibilities
• Refreshing database environments: using cloning technique and exp/imp.
• Maintaining RAC, standby databases, also databases with raw devices.
• User Managed Backup procedures. Creating database back-ups, upgrade and maintenance schedules. As and when required performing database recovery.
• Perform other DBA tasks like character set conversion, space management, rollback segments, Extents, invalid objects, DB links.
• Administering of materialized views, partition tables.
• Transfer data from old database to new database and schema refresh using SQL Loader and exp/import.
• Monitor and tune performance of Oracle databases, alert logs, traces, free spaces, file systems, SQL Tuning, Editing PL-SQL procedures AND Triggers, Performance tuning and monitoring - using Explain Plan, TKPROF, Auto trace and STATSPACK.
• Migration: Done migration for oracle 9i.Resposnible for capacity planning and space management.
• Participated in major production releases, weekend maintenance activities and checking database integrity. Performing BAU activity like Creating/Analyzing primary database objects (tables, views, indexes) once application developers have designed an application. -Controlling and monitoring user access to the database.
• Monitoring production batches, attending job failures and subsequently fixing problems. Preparing impact analysis about the changes
