at Coventry Legal Advise Service, Coventry United Kingdom
  • January 2013 to May 2013

CLAS is an organization by Coventry University which offers free advice to all members of the
society who pay visits at the hope centres. Its main purpose is to inform the society their rights
and to offer legal advice. Due to this opportunity, I completed my four months training as an
advisor.
This role of an advisor entails interviewing of clients, giving legal advice and generating reports
after each case.
This experience developed the following skills;
* Problem solving- This involved exploring and identifying all the issues and related facts
of the case addressing them in a logical order.
* Research - I utilized the interview and Adviser Net to research and advice the client
taking to account the actions he wanted.
* Time management- recognized good timing as we were to give back feedback through
email within three to five days and planned for the next meeting.
* Considering the main facts, what the problem was and how it was tackled in a case report
(especially because this was my second case on my first day therefore a good experience
of report writing.
* Client care skills: Client’s find it hard to give out some facts of their personal
involvement in the case. But in the hope centre we learnt that client care skills are
required to remain impartial to help the client as much as possible.
* Decision making because after interviewing the client and gathering all relevant facts, a
clear decision had to be made so as to help and assist with the problem at hand.
* Interviewing skills - I got to interview the clients and wrote down the information picking
out the most important facts and addressing them one by one.
* Oral communication- language is one of the most fundamental tools of the legal
profession. Legal professions must,
* Communicate persuasively.

support in making a difference.
