Consultant in the prestigious Sri Padmavathi Children Heart Centre, Tirupathi, India. This is a tertiary level, state run institution catering to entire south India with a well-established Pediatric cardiology unit. The Pediatric unit of the hospital operates as a specialized facility with 100 beds exclusively dedicated to pediatric cardiac care, which conducts 800 pediatric cardiac surgeries, including neonatal cardiac interventions with heart transplant surgeries and 700 pediatric cardiac interventions.
My current role in the department is to
a) take part in management and decision making of both outpatients and inpatients (including cardiac ICU patients).
b) take decision on complex congenital heart diseases in conjunction with CVTS surgeons, and cardiac anesthetists during weekly joint cardiac committee meetings.
c) independently perform diagnostic studies and common cardiac interventions like ASD, PDA and VSD device closures, balloon aortic and pulmonary valvuloplasty, balloon coarctoplasty, collateral coil occlusions.
d) formulating the monthly academic roster
e) night duties/on call duties, which involve making decisions for ICU patients and attending to ward patients as needed
f) patient/ patient bystanders counselling
On call duties: 8 duties per month. 36 hours shifts, closed loop communications during handover
Training included bedside case presentations, weekly grand rounds, journal club discussion, seminars, morbidity and mortality discussion following every ICU posting, Cath statistics following every cath lab posting
Clinical Competency: pediatric and neonatal resuscitation, intubation, cannulation, central line insertion, catheterization, nasogastric tube insertion
DM Resident : September 2019- September 2022 (36 months)
Outpatient assessment (supervised) and facilitating consultant led inpatient/ward rounds (19 months)
ICU duties - monitoring hemodynamics, cannulation, intubation, central line insertion, planning next day investigations and management, supervised rounds (10 months)
Cath lab- pre-cath work up and post cath observation and assessment, second operator during procedures (7 months)
