Science Teacher for Grade 2, 3 and 4.
Working as a teacher for me is much more than standing at the front of the classroom talking. I had an important responsibility in the progress and education of the students and that could mean a lot of assessment and administrative work. Although, the general duties included:
-Classroom management;
-Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to grade 7, 8 and 9;
-Preparing and setting tests, examination papers and exercises;
-Marking and providing appropriate feedback on oral and written work;
-Devising, writing and producing new materials, including audio and visual resources;
-Organizing and getting involved in social and cultural activities such as sports competitions, school parties, dinners and excursions;
-Attending and contributing to training sessions;
-Participating in marketing events for the language school;
-Preparing information for inspection visits and other quality assurance exercises;
-Freelance teaching on a one-to-one basis;
-Basic administration, such as keeping student registers and attendance records.
My main responsibilities were to provide financial information by maintaining and reconciling accounts and preparing reports but more included:
-Receive payment by cash, credit cards or automatic debits;
-Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change;
-Resolve customer complaints;
-Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales;
-Compute and record totals of transactions;
-Keep periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions;
-Sort, count, and wrap currency and coins;
-Process returns and exchanges;
-Compile and maintain non-monetary reports and records;
-Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded;
-Update accounts receivable and issue invoices;
Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations;
-Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines;
-Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned;
-Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed;
-Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports;
-Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings;
-Assist with other accounting projects.
Being an assistant teacher for kindergarten I had to be more attentive during the entire session as the students were a lot younger.
-Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups;
-Enforce school and class rules to help teach students proper behavior;
-Help teachers with record keeping, such as tracking attendance and calculating grades;
-Help teachers prepare for lessons by getting materials ready or setting up equipment, such as computers;
-Help supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
Being a Homeroom teacher provided me with a better opportunity to connect with the students as I had to be engaged with them almost the entire duration of the school hours. This way I molded myself to the type of teaching they required and they understood my way of teaching which assisted them in a fast learning process. My typical duties included:
-Teaching required areas of the curriculum of all the subjects (excluding Arabic) of grade 3;
-Taking responsibility for the progress of a class of primary-age pupils;
-Organizing the classroom and learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive learning environment;
-Planning, preparing and presenting differentiated lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within their class;
-Motivating pupils with enthusiastic and imaginative lessons;
-Maintaining discipline;
-Preparing, marking work and providing feedback to facilitate positive pupil development;
-Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording, assessment and reporting of pupils' development;
-Providing feedback to parents on a pupil's progress at parents' evenings and other meetings;
-To plan and coordinate work collaboratively with others;
-Organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening;
-Duties and submissions as required by the Principal.
The responsibilities of my work as an assistant teacher for grade 1, 2 and 3 included:
-Providing support to children in reading and writing on an individual, class or small group basis;
-Giving extra help to children with special needs or those for whom the subject or a concept of the lesson was difficult;
-Helping to develop programs of learning activities and adapting appropriate materials;
-Motivating and encouraging pupils;
-Assisting with marking and correcting work;
-Attending meetings and reviews;
-Helping with school events, trips and activities;
-Substituting for the class teacher in case of absence.
