Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Lahore is the country's largest cancer hospital with JCI accreditation. Its laboratory receives surgical and cytological specimens from almost all parts of the country. They receive around 85000 surgical specimen requests and almost 16000 non-gynecological cytology specimen requests, annually.
My duty was to work under the supervision of consultant pathologists and take part in:
• Screening and report writing of cytology cases
• Onsite evaluation of EUS-FNA, under the direct supervision
• Onsite evaluation of EBUS-FNA
• Performance of Fine needle aspiration procedures and assessment of the adequacy of the aspirated specimen
• Grossing of surgical specimens
• Screening and report writing of the allocated surgical cases
• Present cut-ups to consultants
• Additionally, I used to present cases in Multidisciplinary team meetings
Likewise, I also used to indulge in intra-departmental meetings/lectures, attend CME sessions, and morbidity and mortality meetings.
