Initially worked as Academic SR (Senior Resident) as part of pursuing a PDCC (Post Doctoral Certificate Course) in Apheresis Medicine at JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research) after PG in Transfusion Medicine and Senior Residency of 10 months at Govt T.D Medical College, Alappuzha, Kerala. After completing the one year PDCC course, joined as Regular SR in the same department for two more years.
Now I have started my new post as Assistant Professor in the department of Transfusion Medicine at Govt Medical College, Manjeri, Kerala with the same working pattern as given below
Responsibilities -
As SRs, the main responsibility was to supervise and assist the junior residents in all the departmental work including donor selection and recruitment, donor phlebotomies and post donation management, blood component separation and storage, donor testing and Blood bag labelling, quality control and management, pre-transfusion testing of the patient and issuing of blood components and documentation.
Have to perform patient evaluation for therapeutic phlebotomies, leukapheresis, thrombocytapheresis, therapeutic plasma exchanges, red cell exchanges and stem cell colection for hematopoetic stem cell transplantation. The above mentioned procedures were done with highly equipped apheresis equipments and had acquired expertise in trouble shooting and management of events and adverse reactions.
Have to perform advanced donor procedures like plasmapheresis, plateletpheresis, granulocytapheresis and allogenic stem cell collections.
Have skill in performing basic and advanced immuno-hematology work-ups and investigations for patients with crossmatch incompatibilities, hemolytic disease of newborn, hemolytic anemia and patients with multiple transfusion with alloantibodies.
Have done clinical rounds for specified patients like patients with transfusion reaction, hemolytic anemia, post transplant (organ as well as stem cell) patients, massive transfusion, thalassemia, hemophilia and sickle cell anemia.
Have expertise in teaching and training of the blood bank technicians in their skills, taking lectures for MBBS and post graduate students in TM (Transfusion Medicine), classes for BSC MLT students and nursing students. Have given training for blood bank technicians and medical officers from neighboring institutes and colleges regarding blood bank procedures and quality maintenance.
Moreover, I have worked closely with hemato - oncology, gastro enterology and urology with respect to transportations and transfusion support in pre and post op period.
Also have keen interest to participate in the academic and research work in the department
Achievements -
Three research paper got selected for oral presentation at national conference in India.
Got opportunities to publish research works in both national and international journals.
One research work received best research for the J.G Jolly award in 2023 at Main National Conference (Transmedcon 2023).
Being in a well known and prestigious institute, able to remain up to-dated with the subject and the advancements in the field.
