Responsibities:
* Performs surveillance of nosocomial infections on assigned units according to approved
definitions and criteria.
* Responsible for the epidemiological investigation of infection across the hospital.
* Initiates precautions and isolation measures for transmissible diseases and discontinues
precautions as indicated. Makes recommendations to nursing and medical staff on
appropriate isolation precautions to be used for known or suspected infectious processes.
* Participates in new employee orientation to the infection control program.
* Serves as a member of the Infection Control Committee and other hospital committees as
assigned.
* Develops and participates in educational programs for the prevention and control of
infections in assigned units and maintains records of presentations.
* Participates in hospital-wide performance improvement activities.
* Participates in outbreak investigations and action plans.

Responsibities:
* Providing respiratory support. Such as, if the baby is on a ventilator, making sure the
tube is properly placed, that the baby's oxygen saturation remains above a certain level
and that blood gasses show good oxygen exchange are all crucial for survival. And
making sure the tubing is patent, tape the tube in place and check it each shift.
* Feeding the babies. Some babies in the NICU take bottle feeding, but many get their
feedings via naso-gastric, or NG tubes. Some get all their nutrition via IV.
* Giving Medication.
* Drawing blood and run blood at a precise rate via a pump and verify the blood type, in
addition to watching for signs of a transfusion reaction.
* Starting IVs, assessing IV sites for skin breakdown or other skin damage.
* Attending Caesarian Section with the neonatologist doctor.
* Keeping the oncoming shift, physicians and other professionals apprised of any changes
in the baby's condition.

* Adhere to all safety precautions and initiate proper action when there is an emergency.
* Protects the confidentiality of a patient's information, restricts access to a patient's chart
and responds to requests for information only from those authorized to receive it.
* Ensure continuity of care by communicating and reporting all patient care plans ad
activities to appropriate personnel.
