Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Since its conception in 1902 the work carried out by Cancer Research UK continues to save lives globally. Organisation wide Cancer Research currently employs in the region of 2, 500 staff.

I am a member of team of three responsible for the provision, support and maintenance of SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise services within the organisation. This requires me to engage with Business Analysts when designing and developing new solutions, the end users when providing support and the Systems Administrators when undertaking maintenance work including the installation of patches for SharePoint and SQL Servers.

Operational responsibilities includes:
• Providing application technical support in a virtual desktop environment
• Provisioning SharePoint sites
• Diagnose application hardware and software faults with assistance from the shared services teams
• Repair application faults through to resolution
• Install and configure application software
• Perform application health checks on a daily basis to proactively minimise application outages
• Server application upgrades, patching and configuration
• Creation and maintenance of all relevant documentation
• Ensure all support work meets or exceeds the standard agreed in the SLA
• Manage day-to-day workload, priority and position in queue

• Installation and configuration of Project Server 2010 to mirror the live system
• EPM solution design

The Engineering Council is the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession. The organisation holds the national registers of 235, 000 Engineering Technicians (EngTech), Information and Communications Technology Technicians (ICTTech), Incorporated Engineers (IEng) and Chartered Engineers (CEng). In addition, the Engineering Council sets and maintains the internationally recognised standards of professional competence and ethics that govern the award and retention of these titles.

EngineeringUK is a not-for-profit organisation based in the same location as the Engineering Council; they work across industry and business to promote engineers and engineering in the UK. In total the two organisations have in the region of 150 users.

I become the ICT Manager in September 2009 after the Engineering Council worked with my previous employer Micropoint to employ me directly.

As the ICT Manager of the organisation I had the following responsibilities:
• Staff management
• Internal system strategy and ensuring internal system maintenance and support
• Supply chain management and IT Budgeting
• Managing outsourced teams
• System Architecture
• Design and implementation of internal processes, covering subjects such as change control, escalation and documentation

Key achievements:
• Implement a successful Service Desk
• Documenting and maintaining Help Desk policies and procedures
• Ensuring adherence of SLAs
• Technical lead on implementing SharePoint 2010
• Technical lead on website \[extranet and internet\] upgrade project
• Architecture of a server consolidation and upgrade programme of works
• Managed a domain upgrade to Windows Sever 2008 R2
• Managed an upgrade to Microsoft Exchange

Network Engineer في Micropoint Managed Services Ltd

Micropoint provides support services to a variety of clients throughout the UK. I was hired to fulfil
Micropoint's contract with the Engineering Council.

Appointed as an onsite engineer at the premises of Engineering Council reporting to the Operations
Director for the first year. The following year I was the sole IT person in-house, with Micropoint available as an escalation point.

Key duties included:
• Ensure adherence to SLAs when providing technical support
• Remote administration and management of all ICT equipment
• Using remote control software tools to provide fault resolution and diagnosis for remote users
• Recording and processing fault reports as reported on desktops, servers and laptops
• Logging and prioritising system and user support calls for the third line support team
• Administration of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange Server
• Server maintenance, backup management and troubleshooting
• Liaise with contractors responsible for website development and a bespoke internal application
• Create and maintain day to day telephone and voicemail systems requirements
• Updating the organisations' websites (Intranet, Extranet and public site)
• IT purchasing, system building and hardware and software auditing
• IT budgeting and financial forecasting

Key achievements:
• Created a support ticketing system
• Consistently exceeded SLAs
• Improved the users satisfaction toward the IT systems
• Built a purchase order system using C# and MS SQL
• Developed an Adobe Flash application to display key information to visitors which remains in use
today
• Completed project work for other Micropoint clients, including a large West London NHS PCT
