Established and headed the post acquisition division, originated deals, performed financial due diligence, prepared financial models, devised KPIs, crafted and presented board presentations, brainstormed and documented the corporate strategy, set up and managed a team to prepare quarterly investor updates and six monthly asset valuations for a USD 1.2 billion investment portfolio of private equity, venture capital, real estate and cash management products.
The global financial crisis and resulting upheaval in the MENA region caused ripples throughout all investment firms and meant that VCB’s corporate strategy needed attention. Over the years, I prepared the presentation materials and led the brainstorming workshops with VCB’s Board and senior management to produce an ongoing business strategy for the Bank that was tightly focused and profitable.
I have worked in partnership with the C-suite senior management of a number of rapidly expanding deal companies and represented VCB at the board of director and executive committee levels of many of these companies. I was appointed as a member of VCB’s senior Executive Committee for 3 years.
When VCB formed a new Capital Market Authority (CMA) licensed entity in KSA, I dealt with the CMA for the application and approval process for the new firm, “Saudi Venture Capital Investment Company”. I worked on site in Riyadh for over a year as the Head of Venture Capital & Private Equity, helping recruit the full management team and to ensure the establishment of consistently high standards for deal sourcing, financial due diligence, approvals and reporting. I carried out investigations and other ad hoc assignments to ensure that standards were met and remedial action was taken, including the removal of the initial CEO, COO and CFO. Having obtained all the necessary licences and made over USD 70 million of investments, the organization has now successfully exited over 80% of the investments.
I was a member of the board of directors for “ITWorx Limited”, an IT software development company with offices in the USA, Europe, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt and over 700 employees. After completing the due diligence and acquisition, I helped establish the financial reporting templates that are used by the company to report to the board. ITWorx’s revenues increased 73% and EBITDA increased 136% during my time on the board.
Having invested in a number of start-up investments in Bahrain, I was a board member and acted as Fund Manager for “Venture Capital Fund Bahrain”, handling administrative and regulatory matters and I dealt with many start-up entrepreneurs. The Fund’s most well-known investment has been the German Orthopaedic Hospital, which provides state of the art orthopaedic treatment to an international level with specialist German doctors, procedures and equipment.
I am fluent in PowerPoint, producing rich and impressive presentations, which I have personally delivered to boards, investors and regulators. I am skilled in producing complex financial models in Excel and carefully crafted written reports using MS Word. I am also experienced in using Bloomberg terminals and other data capture sources.
