Camp Electrical Manager

August 2013 - January 2014

Terraseis

Sulaymaniyah, Iraq

August 2013 - January 2014

Design, Install, Commission, Test and maintain new camp builds. Also manage a team of electricians during the process. The project took place in Iraq where I faced many challenges i.e. talking to different nationalities, the procurement of materials, working in a remote location, working in a high risk area etc. I was responsible for compiling material lists then also finding the correct suppliers of materials and arranging delivery of them to site. Once the camp was built I would then undertake the responsibility of maintaining the camp and ensuring that the camp ran smoothly. in order to do this I had to write up a PPM schedule and also a reporting system for the workers to follow to allow any works to be carried out in a timely manner.

Field service engineer

August 2010 - April 2012

Alba Facilities Services

United Kingdom

August 2010 - April 2012

I would carry out routine maintenance on various types of equipment from AHU, supply and extract fan units, boilers (both gas and water), electrical systems etc. The company had lots of different contracts and as well as doing preventative maintenance we would also carry out corrective maintenance too. this role gave me a better insight to different trades and I learned a lot from the job by working with some of the other engineers. most of the time I would be working alone and this is where I met a lot of challenges of which I always managed to overcome. I realized that I excelled at certain faults than others. my main expertise would be fault finding on PLC boards and I was often used as a go to guy for the other engineers when they became stuck at a problem they would be at. The company also done some installation work and with any electrical jobs I was always handed them along with a couple of other men to help with the work. any time I was given these jobs I would lead the team and we would complete the job on time and to a very high standard.

Hobbies

  • Football
I have been playing football for a number of years and in my younger years I managed to progress to a semi professional level. unfortunately due to knee injuries I had to stop playing for a while and come down a few levels. My biggest achievement would have to be winning the reserve league title with Airdrie where I played almost every game in the season.
  • Gym
I spend a lot of time away from home in this current role so I find that going to the gym is a good way to meet other people who work on the site as well as keeping myself fit and healthy. when I first started going to the gym I was quite over weight, around 18stone. since I started going regular to the gym and training with others my has weight dropped to 16 stone and I hope it continues to do so
  • Family time
I recently became a parent for the first time to my daughter and it has been probably the best thing that's happened to me since I married my wife 1 year ago. I am always so happy to get home from work every week so that I can spend time with them both and play with my daughter. it's an amazing thing to see how she changes week by week and I would say that she is my biggest accomplishment in life.
  • Golf
I enjoy playing golf. it can be a very frustrating sport at times but also very enjoyable. I used to play quite often while I was back in the UK but have only played a few times since arriving in the UAE. I am hoping to start playing a bit more often again so I can bring my handicap back down. my biggest achievement would probably be when I shot a round of level par whilst playing with friends.
