Overall management of the Institute with a focus on development and strengthening of management Programs (MBA) curricula, pedagogy, research, entrepreneurship and student placement through enhancing quality standards in management education, accreditation and collaborations. Prepared the Institute’s 5- year Strategic Plan. Initiated new measures such as E-governance and administrative streamlining, the ‘Thought Leader’ and ‘Lead by Example’ programs, Research Development Value Chain, Academic Enhancement Value Chain, Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation Zone (SFIMARebiz).
Setting up the Asset management and the Investment banking Divisions of the company with strategic focus on product development (local, regional and global), investment management with risk-return smoothing based on various themes and strategies, capital structuring, mergers and acquisitions as well as fund raising through public issues.
Managed a local and overseas investment portfolio for the Group. Achieved an average annualized return of 18% on the overall portfolio. Set up and worked on a few green field projects in Oman- hotel & restaurants, sanitary fittings and mineral water bottling. Also worked on revival of a sick manufacturing unit.
Managed portfolio and direct investments in Oman, the UAE and Qatar, as well as in the US and other major markets, for the Chairman of DAMAC Group. Achieved an annualized return of 86.5% on the local direct portfolio and 17.3% on the overall portfolio. Prepared feasibility studies and set up investment banking outfits in the UAE, Oman and Qatar. Prepared business plans for expansion of one existing public limited company in Oman (industrial catering) and conversion of an existing limited liability company (investment banking) in Oman.
Set up the Investment Banking Division for the Bank. Developed equity research, benchmarking index for the local market, fund/portfolio management, issue management businesses and supervised local brokerage operations. Developed and managed new discretionary portfolio business of US$ 315 million for four large local Pension Funds. Successfully launched and managed the NBO (Open-ended) Capital Guaranteed Fund. Achieved annualized returns ranging from 110-122% for the portfolio clients, against a market return of 77%. Introduced Fidelity’s global fund products in Oman through the Bank.
Advising the Group Chairman and Vice Chairman on their personal investments in venture capital, private equity, offshore funds, equities, fixed income securities, derivatives and real estate worldwide. Achieved a return of around 26% on a global, highly diversified and substantial investment portfolio consisting of venture capital, private equity, offshore funds, equities, fixed income securities, derivatives and real estate. Participated in merger and acquisitions in local banking, insurance and brokerage sectors in Oman. Also reviewed project/contract proposals in the constructions, and oil and gas sectors.
Policy and procedural issues related to the setting up of an automated stock exchange, securities depository, pricing and vetting of IPOs, regulation of mutual funds, takeovers, mergers & acquisitions, insider trading, foreign institutional investment and investor protection. Nominated to the Bhubaneswar Stock Exchange, Orissa as its Executive Director for overall administration and development.
