Sr. Technical Support Engineer at Medidata - London UK
  • United Kingdom - London
  • October 2014 to August 2016

Medidata provides cloud based solutions for life sciences such as e-clinical solution for clinical trials, planning cloud for study design and planning, data capture cloud for electronic data capture etc.

I have worked in production support for e-clinical solution called Clinical Trial Management System. It is a SaaS application deployed in Tomcat with MySQL/Oracle database on Linux.

Accomplishments:
•Set up the troubleshooting environment on Mac OS for SSH communication to provide support to the internal and external customers.
•Managed work requests describing issues with application configuration, data integration, web service integration, data issues, software bugs and resolved customer problems to the highest customer satisfaction with on time delivery.
•Documented investigations and complete problem resolution in detail for both the technical and non-technical users.
• Provided detail process analysis for escalations of critical issues reported during on call rotation and issues occurred after the software upgrade was deployed.
•Identified the application properties, seed/reference data and/or configuration parameters set in the UI in order to resolve the issues reported in work requests and provided the resolutions to clients or escalated to the teams as per clients' business process.
•Developed SQL scripts to resolve data integration issue such as import/export, data sanitisation and provide workaround for software bugs.
•Satisfactorily resolved customer problems related to scheduled jobs such as the job not generating desired data, job taking too long to generate the reports, scheduled job not triggering specific application functionality etc.
•Successfully handled critical incident resolution and triage process by coordinating with internal and external teams in order to save penalty.
•Escalating the after upgrade issues to cloud team, learnt that most of the time the cause of their occurrence is incompatible cloud API token and authentication errors.
•Investigated the software issues using server logs and application code, tested them in sandbox environment and escalated to the product team with suggested fix for those software bugs.
•Identified the causes of job failure with application integration such as incompatible data types, non-compliant data in the XML file defined with a standard format, incomplete data because of missing key values, database not available etc. and resolved them appropriately.

Oracle DBA at Petrotechnics
  • United Kingdom - Aberdeen
  • June 2007 to August 2011

Petrotechnics provides software solutions to improve front line operational performance and risk management in Oil and Gas industry.

I have worked as an independent delivery/deployment DBA for their earlier product called Sentinel PRO and development DBA for the new product called Proscient. Sentinel PRO used to be a J2EE application deployed in WebLogic server supported by Oracle RDBMS. The Proscient was called New Whole Product when I worked in development for its concept to design and development state.

Accomplishments as Deployment DBA:
•Developed SQL and PL/SQL scripts for data migration of the application schema across major application releases including other releases such as bug fix, feature enhancement, version upgrade, and/or merger/divestment of the business asset at the production site.
•Supported configuration team resolving application issues and added database scripts for version control to configuration management tool called Rational ClearCase.
•Provided solutions to Oracle environmental issues at clients' sites and documented their resolutions in change management tool called Rational ClearQuest for reference to customer support team.
•Supported testing and deployment teams to effectively make use of Oracle utilities such as import-export, SQL Loader and helped resolved errors occurred during the test set up and database deployment at client's sites.
•Installed, configured and maintained the development, test and deployment databases for optimum resources and monitored and tuned them for performance and availability.
• Worked in collaboration with the project managers for on-time delivery of the solutions and with on-site consultants for successful implementation of the solutions.

Accomplishments as Development DBA:
•Analysed and tested database tools to automate the database operations such as Talend Open Studio for schema migration.
• Collaborated with developers' team to evaluate and select software for the database design and development such as Visual Paradigm tools for data modeling and SQL Developer as IDE.
•Incorporated a database change management tool Liquibase, Java based API, to track and version control the schema changes made during the database development.
•Collaborated with agile development team to understand the application requirement specification and convert them into database model using Data Modeling tools.
•Contributing to the database schema development and resolving application build issues occurred within Continuous Integration of the development environment.
•Defining persistence unit of JPA to map DAO, data access objects with the Relational Objects.
•Functional testing the performance of search framework Compass indexes stored in a file against JTA timeout parameter. And configuring the JDBC store for the search framework Compass
•Configuring and functional testing the performance of JDBC store for Quartz scheduler for use in our application.

Developer/DBA at In Practice Systems
  • United Kingdom - Aberdeen
  • August 2005 to May 2007

InPS provides system software for management of the patient records for the healthcare industry.

I have worked here in the role of database developer and development DBA for their application called Vision4 at that time. It used to be java application deployed in Oracle Application Server supported by Oracle RDBMS 9i at the time of development.

Accomplishments:
•Identified that running Oracle Application Server by every developer on their machine was resource intensive and it needed to be deployed on a lightweight application server. Researched, tested and deployed the Standalone version of the OAS on Windows.
•Worked closely with a Java architect for successful deployment of application into the OAS Enterprise version. Worked with Java developers to configure JDBC data sources, JPA, quartz scheduler, Oracle objects etc. Used Oracle Application Server Control and command line utilities to deploy and administer the application into Application Server Instance.
•Developed and tested the stored procedures and functions for handling application data using PL/SQL Developer and utPL/SQL.
•Resolved Oracle errors when testing the application build and database build before deploying it on the developers' machines.
•Developed database schema in collaboration with application developers using ER Studio.
•Optimised the database build script using SQL Loader to make it less resource intensive for deployment and used it to load complex data types such as clob/blob, xml and international characterset.
•Installed, configured and managed Oracle databases for development and test environment on RHEL platform.
•Monitored the performance of database servers and documented the issue resolutions using various Oracle provided utilities such as STATSPACK, TKFPROF, SQL Trace etc.

Oracle DBA at Enterprise Information Systems
  • Canada - Ontario
  • January 2003 to December 2004

Enterprise Information Systems provides training and consultancy for the Oracle applications development and database administration
I acquired training and certification on Oracle 9i database administration for initial six months and then worked with them for a year and a half on three projects

•installed, configured and documented the Oracle 9i RAC on Sun Cluster and demonstrated it in Oracle User Group on Developer/DBA day.
•installed, configured and documented the Logical/Physical standby databases and demonstrated it to clients.
•assisted with defining, documenting and implementing the backup and recovery strategies using Oracle technologies.

Oracle Programmer at MDSOL Aero Support Corp
  • Canada - Ontario
  • September 2000 to July 2002

MDS Aero Support Corporation is an engineering-based organization and provides the software called data acquisition systems for test facilities and systems for aviation industry.

Their software application called Enhanced Data Acquisition Systems at that time used to be a complex system based on C language and Oracle Forms application on Unix platform supported by Oracle RDBMS.

I began my IT career as Oracle Programmer at MDS after certifying as Oracle developer and having some experience in EDP department of the Telecom industry where I used to work as telecom engineer.

Accomplishments:
•Resolved issues with Oracle forms and pre-compiler programs used in various complex applications interfacing with hardware systems.
•Documented the solutions in technical reports for other teams of the product to understand and collate it appropriately in user's manuals.
•Developed and enhanced Oracle forms applications for new subsystems being integrated into the data acquisition system.
