Successfully completed projects
An innovative approach to jump start simplified management of sick young infants with Possible Serious Bacterial Infection (PSBI) where referral is not possible; for potential scale-up Pakistan Site (District Thatta & Sujawal).
ACHIEVEMENT: PSBI guidelines successfully adopted and implemented by PPHI in district. PPHI keenly interested to implement these guidelines in province.
Accomplished following tasks as a project manager:
• Master trainer of PSBI guidelines; trained managers and facility staff in district.
• Organized and conducted pregnancy and birth surveillance training of LHWs.
• Facilitated implementation of WHO’s PSBI guidelines at BHUs (PHCs).
• Responsible for monitoring and progress of study at field site.
• Capacity building of facility staff in classification and management of sick young infants.
• Development of reporting templates for project and facility staff.
• Organized monthly meetings with PPHI, DoH, BHU staff and LHWs.
• Responsible for monthly, quarterly, midterm and final project reports for stakeholders and funding agency.
Effectiveness of community based management of severe acute malnutrition through Lady Health Workers as compared to a facility based program: A cluster randomized controlled trial in Pakistan. (District Dadu, Sindh).
ACHIEVEMENT: First study in Pakistan and 2nd study in Asia that involved community health workers in treatment of SAM.
Accomplished following tasks as a project manager:
• Played main role in preparation of study.
• Devised data collection instruments and monitoring templates in light of CMAM guidelines.
• Conducted baseline survey in study area.
• Trained study staff in MUAC, anthropometric measurements and identification of SAM complications.
• Regularly monitored the progress of study at field site.
• Successfully completed the required sample size for the trial.
• Involved in data analysis; manuscript written and sent for publication.
