Research assistant (volunteer)
University of Sharjah
Total years of experience :0 years, 8 Months
It is a very good experience to work in University of Sharjah Research Laboratories as research assistant, I have learned how to do "Organic Synthesis " for many drugs that could have anti cancer activity. Also, I have learned to use many instruments for example :
MS-NMR, HPLC, retotary evaporator, .. etc .
I have learned also how to do separation by column chromatography, and synthesis of many bioactive compounds by conducting different chemical reactions. Also I have conducted many extraction processes of natural compounds (could have antimicrobial effect ) from many kinds of marine sponges and plants.
I learned how to characterise the Lubricants using many instruments like:automated and manual kinematic viscometer, ICP-AES, X-Ray fluorescence analyser, Flash Point instrument, Heto Dry winner "pour point instrument ", cold cranking simulator or CCS, foaming characteristics instrument, glass hydrometer, penetrator. The objectives of this internship were achieved :
*Basic knowledge about the company and its various global locations.
* Understanding how the blending plant operated, in conjunction with the laboratory.
* Getting familiar with the quality standards that the company adheres to.
* Carrying out several experiments to determine various properties that affect the quality
of the lubricant products such as:
. Density.
. Kinematic viscosity and viscosity index.
.Foaming characteristics of lubricant oil.
. Flash point.
. Pour point.
.Total base number(TBN) and Total acid number(TAN)
.Apparent Viscosity using cold-cranking simulator(CCS).
Determination of additive elements in lubricant oils using Inductively- coupled
plasma atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP).
Penetration value of grease.
*Producing a sample lubricant blend, also known as ‘Pilot Blend’.
* Learning about the hazardous waste management procedures.
*Basic understanding of the various types of lubricants.
I learned how to select the suitable oil for my vehicle, It is what is written on the packaging that counts. Specifications and approvals are everything
There are two established testing bodies:
.API (American Petroleum Institute).
.ACEA (European ).
I learned about Technical training: Quality Assurance Training which include:
* ISO (Quality Manual & Procedure)for example :
. ISO 9001- This is an international standard that gives requirements for the company
quality management systems(QMS).
. ISO /ICE 17025- this standards sets the requirements for testing and calibration in laboratories.
. ISO 14001- this ISO standard focuses on the environmental management standards that
the company is meant to follow.
* ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology).
* GSO (Gulf Standardization Organization).
I learned about ASTM or American Society for Testing & Materials, every measurement have an ASTM that must be followed by the company for example : To
measure the density of a lubricant oil, a hydrometer could be used manually in conjunction with
certain calculation as in ASTM D1298 or an oscillating sample tube could be used as in ASTMD4052.
. Education: * Graduated Student , University of Sharjah , Bachelor degree in science college major chemistry. *Damascus University. * Abed- Aljalil Alnaas secondary school for girls ,Syria(2010).
University of Sharjah(UOS) is considered one of the best 500 universities worldwide, studying at UOS was a very good experience with very highly qualified stuff . UOS have very easy and fast online services. Chemistry is considered one of the most applicable sciences in theses days so UOS offer the suitable Chemistry program that meet the requirements of these days.
- very admitted and strong material. - Suitable for University study plan.
