Responsibilities:

• Educate an average of 30 students per year. •
• Teach English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Religious Education, Practical Arts and Handwriting.
• Teach support classes to give students individual attention as needed.
• Design creative lesson plans in accordance with national guidelines.
• Administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress and maintain accurate and complete records to generate continuous assessment reports for parents and school administration.
• Designed and teach a language program that emphasizes using English as a primary language of learning.
• Introduced English Literature to the Grade 5 curriculum.
• Encourage cultural awareness by incorporating literature and comprehension texts from cultures around the world and read age- appropriate short stories and poetry during the first ten minutes of reading period.
• Foster oral language development and critical thinking skills during read aloud sessions and discussions in each subject.
• Foster creativity and good writing skills through short story and poetry writing lessons.
• Facilitate science experiments.
• Assign group projects to encourage team work, extension of knowledge in a learning area and the use of technology in class presentations.
• Set up lesson materials, bulletin board displays and assembly presentations.
• Create a classroom environment in which children learn respect for themselves and others by practicing our class values.
• Observe and evaluate students' academic performance, behavior, social development and physical health.
• Communicate with parents to support students' learning and healthy development in school and at home.
• Work with other teachers to ensure that academic goals are being met.
• Organize and supervise annual class trips.
• Coach Intermediate Netball.
• Manage the grade 5 Entrepreneurs week.

• Taught a language program that emphasized vocabulary, pronunciation, reading comprehension and conversational skills.
• Assigned lessons and corrected homework.
• Administered and graded tests and assignments to evaluate student progress.
• Improved language instruction and critical thinking skills by using a variety of assessment tools and strategies.
• Compiled academic status reports based on in-depth student evaluations.
• Coordinated communication between students and school administration, during the evaluation by the Independent Schools Association of South Africa, to create an effective and culturally-sensitive learning environment.
