Key Roles and responsibilities

The instrumentation discipline is responsible for the design, application and selection of instrument equipment to ensure it meets all the statutory and client requirements with regard to specifications, delivery and documentation. Equipment would typically include:
• Pressure, temperature and level gauges, flow, pressure, temperature and level transmitters, flow meters: variable area, ultrasonic, coriolis and turbine, Multi-phase flowmeters, emergency shutdown valves (ESDV), control valves, choke valves, pressure relief valves, fire and gas detectors and smoke detectors
and ancillary equipment such as instrument cable, cable tray / support, junction boxes, instrument tubing etc.
• Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Fire & Gas Systems (F&G), Emergency / Process Shutdown (ESD / PSD) Systems, HIPPS etc.
Wellhead Control Panels / Hydraulic Power Units (WHCP / HPU)
• Ensure design intent is maintained and issue periodic reports to lead control and instrumentation engineer.
• Attend and participate in coordination of KOMs and weekly progress meetings irrespective of location.
• Preparation of engineering and construction scopes (CTR’s) for both man-hours and equipment estimates and assistance in the review of proposed schedules
• Preparation of design change requests for instrument and control systems modifications, major repairs, and overhaul works.
• Production of and attendance at, offshore surveys and collation of results.
• Create and update Instrument indexes and I/O schedules.
• Preparation of DCS/ESD/F&G systems modification scopes of work & Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Input / Output Schedule (as per DCS/ESD/F&G vendor).
• Prepare and provide engineering input into the engineering packages, specifications, datasheets, drawings, technical bid evaluation etc.
• Specifications, datasheets and requisitions for required instrumentation equipment including: transmitters, gauges, switches, valves, sensors and controllers.
• Provide instrumentation direction to FSO / FPSO’s and Shore Bases.
• Design of fire and gas detection system for Ballast Tanks on the FPSO.
• Liaising with the supplier to develop the equipment and to ensure that all documentation required is provided and commented on, and any issues with design, delivery or cost are resolved in a timely manner.
• To ensure that all other disciplines have an input into the design at all stages and that any conflicts or comments are resolved with the supplier of the equipment.
• Participate in HAZOP / SIL review and LOPA meetings.
• Interface with Client representatives and other disciplines with respect to control & instrumentation matters.
• Attend, review and approval of FAT’s at vendor sites in Europe and SAT’s both offshore (North Sea).
• Production of engineering workpacks, workscopes, jobcards, testing and inspection requirements.
• Ensure implementation of safety instrument design through the project life cycle in accordance with AMEC and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems.
