- provide the department with relevant and challenge information - prepare the DSR for the Commander and the Chief of Staff;
- maintain response readiness, professional training, and information’s discipline;
- take part in the preparation of documents of readiness, territorial responsibility, and repulsing external hazards;
- report relevant information to the Chief of Unit (in case of absence - act as the Chief of Unit and report to the Chief of Staff);
- know the requirements of the statutes, orders, instructions, and advisers of the professional field to follow them in service activities;
- take measures for the protection of state secrets;
- know the structure and rules of operation (use, storage) assigned equipment and other means;
- monitor the serviceability of equipment and other means;

- Ensure that all communication equipment (i.e. radio, fax, mobile, and land-line phones) are in perfect working conditions before the start of duty
- Organize the primary detection of crimes by supervised duty teams (or delegate authority on territoriality), activate special operative plans (related), and control the line of duty of supervised staff
- Report to supervisors and responsible sections about the operative situation in the area of responsibility
- Form and issue the daily situation report about crimes and events occurred in the area of responsibility within a 24-hour period
- Reception statements and complaints from individuals and legal entities and organize the response
- Monitor public peace and order on the AOR and assist in taking relevant measures
- Computer proving suspects, seized arms and stolen property
- Organize the primary search of missing persons
- Provide the cooperation between police department and departments of emergency situations ministry, national security service, local authorities, civil defense in case of natural or industrial catastrophe, hostage taking, epidemic, epizootic etc.
- Provide safety storage and management of weapons, technics, property and special means
- Provide defense and fire safety of the department administrative building
- Provide and control the government property storage and pass control to department administrative building

Principle Accountabilities
• Assist in general SSNPS development, training, capacity building, confidence building, reform and restructuring, monitoring and evaluation.
• Provide monitoring, assessment, advice, and expertise for the following SSPS identified ‘enabling projects’ for development of the Southern Sudan Police Service:
• Registration of South Sudan Police
• Provision of Training to South Sudan Police
• Printing of Essential Law Books, Forms and Registers
• Provision of Essential Transport to South Sudan Police
• Establishment of the South Sudan Communication System
• Establishment of the South Sudan Forensic Service
• Provision of Basic Riot Equipment and Training to Police
• Establishment of Community Policing System
Since December 2012:
- Training of Diplomatic Protection Unit of local police on: Use of Force, Officer Safety, Physical Training and Drills, Physical Security of Diplomatic and International Premises, Crowd Control, Intelligence Activity, Patrol Technique, Radio Communication, Human Rights and Police Service, VIP Protection; Discipline and Code of Conduct, Specialized Firearms Training, Crime Investigation.
- Operational Management of Diplomatic Protection Unit and project (Donor coordination, DSRs, rosters, operational plans, job descriptions, etc.)
- Quick Response activity along with UNDSS within the program of Diplomatic Protection( attendance accident- incident scenes, collecting evidence, a definition of witnesses, monitoring of Status Of Forces Agreement and compliance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention).
- Receive, register, process, analyze and deliver to the Ministry of Internal Affairs or supervised police control rooms the information about crimes and events occurred in the area of responsibility within a 24-hour period
- Ensure that all communication equipment (i.e. radio, fax mobile, and land-line phones) are in perfect working conditions before the start of duty
- Organize the primary detection of crimes by supervised duty teams (or delegate authority on territoriality), activate special operative plans (related), and control the line of duty of supervised staff
- Report to supervisors and responsible sections about the operative situation in the area of responsibility
- Form and issue the daily situation report about crimes and events occurred in the area of responsibility within a 24-hour period
- Reception statements and complaints from individuals and legal entities and organize the response
- Monitor public peace and order on the AOR and assist in taking relevant measures
