As Head of the Accounts and Finance Department to oversee the functions of :
1. Accounts - oversee the updation of entries in the system, iron out any deficiencies, monthly finalisation of accounts for submission of MIS reports to the management, annual finalisation of accounts, liasion with auditors
2. finance - preparation of project reports and submission of the same to banks to get additional working capital, term loans for purchase of machinery, to negotiate with NBFCs for financing of equipment purchase etc.
3. Costing - costing of various products manufactured by the factory, review of the same on a quarterly basis to account for revision in the cost, if any, of the inputs, increase in labor and other manufacturing and corporate expenses.
4. budgeting - preparation of budgets of the company and comparison of the budgeted figures with the actuals on a monthly as well as on a yearly basis, analysing the reasons and submitting reports to the management.
5. Banking - submission of monthly CMA data, participating in the annual stock verification by the bank, submission of project reports for enhancement of working capital limits etc.
6. Taxation - guiding the subordinates in preparation and online submission of tax returns ( income tax, service tax, excise, sales tax ), submitting replies to the queries, if any, raised by the statutory authorities, appearing before them in case of appeals, if any.
7. Debtors - putting in place systems to ensure collections are made in time, follow up with the concerned branch managers in case of sticky collections, coordinating between manufacturing, sales and management.
8. Creditors - laying down systems for purchases, comparison of purchase quotations received from various suppliers, discuss with purchase department on the status and products to be procured from various suppliers, finalise the purchases and submit a report to management.
9. general liaison : with government authorities for securing or renewal of licenses etc.
The work consists of looking after the accounts, finance, taxation, budgeting, costing, banking activities at head office and also, overseeing the functioning of mines in Karnataka state to meet the requirement of licences, permits, adminstration etc. The job entails the visiting the mines twice in a month to trouble shoot if required.
Accounts : seeing to it that the accounts are upto date, handling internal and statutory audits, finalisation of accounts, reconciliation of accounts payable and receivables.
Finance : arranging working capital from the banks, furnishing reports to the banks on periodical basis.
Budgeting Formulation of department wise budgets in coordination with various departments, formulating the yearly budget, comparison of actual performance with the budgets, analysing the discrepancies etc.
MIS : preparation of monthly performance statements, age wise statements of accounts payable, prepartion of cash flow statements, forecasting monthly requirements etc.
Taxation : ensuring correct deduction of TDS, filing monthly returns, handling assessments of the company, filing of annual tax returns etc.
Mines work : overseeing the adminstration of mines, liaising with the principals, govrnment departments for permits and licences for transportation of iron ore, logistics etc.

The role consisted of monitoring the sites under my control, looking after their fund requirements, monitoring the accounts, liasing between the sites and the corporate office, preparing funds flow and budgets for the sites, monitoring the stores etc.
At the time of induction into the company I was given the job of implementing the SiTE software, a construction industry specific software across al the sites of the company. This was successfully implemented and for the first time the accounts were finalised on this software.
The job also involved assisting the corporate accounts in the finalisation of accounts of the company.

I was inducted into the company as General Manager - Finance of the Hyderabad division of this food processing company which had offices at Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkota and its registered office at Mumbai. I was responsible for the accounts, finance, budgeting, costing, taxation activities of the division and also the branches and also coordinating with the head office for the group finalisation of accounts. I was also responsible for handling the internal and statutory audits and also dealing with the suppliers for ensuring a smooth flow of material into the company.

The watch division was part of the larger Hyderabad allwyn Ltd, a semi-government company engaged in the production of watches in collaboration with SEIKO. I was responsible for accounts, banking, accounts payable and bills receivable, reconciliation of accounts with head office and area offices, finalisation of accounts, handling internal, statutory and government auditors etc.
When I was in this division we were the first to furnish computerised accounts to the head office which was quite an accomplishment in 1987 when the computers were just introduced in our company.
When I joined the division the accounting activities of the division were part of HO transctions. After joining I set up the entrie system of accounts in the division which was just at the project implementation stage.
I was promoted twice during my tenure here for Senior Accountant to Accounts Officer to Asst Manager Accounts.
