Waheed Ahmad Saeed

Co-founded the Leeds Sustainable Marine Team and grew it to ~30 members. Lead the teams strategic direction
as it develops and races an electric boat in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge.
Lead the Propulsion & Drivetrain sub-team in designing and prototyping the vessels electric propulsion system
(motor, drivetrain, propeller); conduct simulations and performance testing to optimise thrust and hydrodynamic
efficiency.
Oversee cross-functional collaboration among all sub-teams (~30 students) to maintain seamless integration of
mechanical, electrical, and structural subsystems, and a consistent flow of information across all groups.
Manage overall team operations and logistics, including project planning, timeline management and resource
allocation, to ensure on-time delivery of project milestones and alignment with overall goals.

Co-founded an inclusive student society to promote curiosity and interdisciplinary learning. Developed the brand
and operating model (event playbooks, risk management, volunteer onboarding) and organized a diverse
calendar of events (tech, creative, outdoor), securing partner support and fostering a vibrant, engaged
community.

Mentored 20+ first-year engineering students through weekly clinics on study skills, CAD/CAM software, and
coding toolchains. Advised on project scoping and problem-solving, and created concise how-to guides, fostering
academic confidence and strong foundational skills in junior students.

Contributed to a multi-national project on ion-exchange fluoride capture (Laidlaw/LIFD program). Led fluoride
precipitation trials by creating SOPs, preparing reagents, conducting bench-scale experiments, and developing
mass-balance models for chemical recovery processes.
Assisted in designing a continuous-flow column rig with flow/pressure monitoring and operated advanced lab
instrumentation (ATR-FTIR, XRD). Ensured data was version-tracked and contributed to cost-performance
models. Presented research findings to international partners (incl. NM-AIST Tanzania) and completed hands-on
training in slurry transport and process equipment disassembly.

Developed Python/TensorFlow models to predict energy usage, optimize torque vectoring, and provide chassis
setup recommendations for an electric race car. Installed sensors, wiring looms, and mounting hardware on the
vehicle; conducted trackside tests and telemetry analysis, resulting in improved lap consistency and energy
efficiency for the teams Formula Student car.

Designed and prototyped an EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) robot from concept to functional prototype.
Created SolidWorks 3D assemblies and detailed drawings with GD&T, and iterated the design using FEA to
improve structural performance. Fabricated components via CNC machining and 3D printing to verify fit and
function.
Collaborated daily with a cross-functional team (mechanical, electrical, autonomy) based in Colombia,
coordinating design interfaces, change control, and supplier communications. Developed test plans aligned with
international standards (STANAG) and prepared technical documentation for project reviews.

Provided IT orientation and frontline support for a cohort of 100+ foundation-year students, resolving issues with
email, LMS platforms, cloud services, and account security. Managed drop-in help sessions and an online
support channel, and authored quick-start guides that significantly reduced recurring support queries.
